So I am out using the 99 Arctic Cat 500 4x4 to move and unload a trailer and hear this high pitched squeal, lasted 5 seconds, goes away, I back up, bike dies, would not start, check battery 1.3vdc, so I quickly get tools to disconnect, battery hot, huge arc disconnecting, something fried.
Smells sort of like burning glass, like when coating melt when an alternator cooks, so ordered a used stator and flywheel for $60, battery already recovered to 11vdc.. so back out to push her to shop of which I can now use as we moved the big items in way, charge its battery and start to pull that apart.. This is the bike I cannot keep the oil clean unless I drive her 10m each time ride her and so many times just moving trailers or getting mail so oil milky over n over, even added breather to airbox to suck fumes out of the motor, wish did not have to driver her 10-15m every time start her up.
Now I did have cooling fan on bypass, did not check to see if that failed, but only out 60 of something else and parts I could use one day...
It never ends...
