Is your computer running out of storage space?

When a computer’s storage gets too full, Windows may slow down, updates may fail, and programs may stop working correctly.

Before deleting random files or folders, make sure you know what they contain. Important photos, documents, programs, or system files may not be easy to recover.

If your computer is running low on space, Howe Tech can help identify what is using it and explain your options safely.

Restart and Shut Down are not always the same thing.

On many Windows computers, Shut Down may save some system information so the computer can start faster next time. Restart performs a more complete reload of Windows.

That means if your computer is acting strangely, installing updates, or having trouble with a program, choosing Restart may work better than simply shutting it down and turning it back on.

It is a small difference, but sometimes it is exactly what the computer needs.

If restarting does not solve the problem, give Howe Tech a call.

Your computer may be collecting more than files.

Dust, pet hair, and debris can build up inside a computer and restrict airflow. Over time, that can contribute to higher temperatures, louder fans, reduced performance, and unnecessary wear on internal components.

Signs your computer may need attention include:

Fans running loudly
The computer feeling unusually hot
Random shutdowns
Reduced performance during demanding tasks
Visible dust around vents
Avoid spraying household cleaners or compressed air directly into the computer without knowing where the debris will go.

If your computer has not been cleaned in a while, Howe Tech can inspect it and help keep it running properly.

Be honest—how many browser tabs do you have open right now?

Keeping a large number of tabs open can use a surprising amount of your computer’s memory, especially when those tabs contain videos, email, social media, or other active websites.

If your computer feels slow, try closing the tabs you no longer need and restarting your browser. Your computer may appreciate the break.

Still running slowly after that? Give Howe Tech a call. We can help figure out what is actually slowing it down.

That Windows update reminder is easy to postpone—but it is important not to ignore it forever.

Windows updates do more than change how your computer looks. They regularly include security fixes, reliability improvements, and corrections for problems that can cause crashes, errors, or compatibility issues.

Keeping Windows up to date helps:

- Protect your computer from newly discovered security threats
- Fix bugs and improve reliability
- Keep programs, printers, and other devices working properly
- Make sure your computer continues receiving the latest protections and improvements

It is okay to schedule an update or restart for a more convenient time. The problem is repeatedly putting it off until your computer falls far behind.

If updates keep failing, your computer is stuck on an older version, or you are not sure whether everything is current, bring it to Howe Tech. We can check your system, install available updates, and help make sure your computer is properly maintained.

Many people use their computers every day for online banking, paying bills, shopping, taxes, and storing important personal information.

While Windows 10 has been a reliable operating system for years, newer computers running Windows 11 include additional security features designed to help protect your information from modern threats.

Does that mean everyone needs to run out and buy a new computer today? Not necessarily.

The important thing is knowing:

- What version of Windows you're running
- Whether your computer can upgrade to Windows 11
- Whether you're still receiving security updates
- What other steps you can take to keep your accounts and information safe

Technology and security can be confusing, and that's okay.

If you're unsure whether your computer is up to date, stop by Howe Tech. We'd be happy to check your system, answer your questions, and explain your options in plain English with no pressure and no obligation.

📍 Stop by the shop anytime and we'll help you understand where your computer stands.

A fast computer and fast internet are not the same thing.

A newer or more powerful computer can open programs and handle tasks quickly, but it cannot make a slow internet connection faster. If your internet service, Wi-Fi signal, router, or network is struggling, websites may still load slowly, videos may buffer, and calls may cut out.

The opposite is also true. Fast internet will not fix a computer that is running slowly because of an aging hard drive, limited memory, low storage space, too many background programs, malware, or other system problems.

The key is figuring out where the slowdown is actually coming from: the computer, the internet connection, the Wi-Fi setup, or a combination of them.

Experiencing slow internet or a slow computer? Give Howe Tech a call. We can check your setup, identify the cause, and help you understand the best way to improve it.

Full Wi-Fi bars, but your internet still feels slow?

Those bars only show how strong the connection is between your device and your router. They do not show how fast or reliable the internet coming into your home actually is.

Slow internet can be caused by too many devices using the network, poor router placement, interference from walls or electronics, or a problem with your internet provider.

So even with full bars, videos may buffer, websites may load slowly, and calls may cut out.

If your Wi-Fi looks strong but still feels slow, give Howe Tech a call. We can help figure out what is actually causing the problem.

Your email password protects a lot more than just your inbox.

Think about how many times you’ve clicked “Forgot Password” and had a reset link sent to your email. If someone gains access to your inbox, they may also have a way into your banking, shopping, social media, cloud storage, and other accounts.

That’s why your email should have a strong, unique password that you don’t use anywhere else. And whenever possible, turn on two-factor authentication for an extra layer of protection.

Your email is often the front door to your digital life—make sure it’s protected.

Need help securing your accounts? Howe Tech can help.
