Hackers are not hunting Amazon today.
They are hunting businesses that still think they are too small to matter.
The U.S. has 36.2 million small businesses. That is 99.9% of all companies. So of course the volume hits Main Street, not just the Fortune 500.
What the reports actually show:
• 46% of small and midsize owners have already been attacked
• Almost 1 in 5 of those victims filed bankruptcy or closed
• Ransomware showed up in 88% of SMB breaches, vs 39% at big companies
• Median ransom: $115,000
Big companies get the headline.
Small companies get locked files, a dead Monday, and a bill they cannot eat.
I still hear this every week:
“We’re too small. Why would anyone hack us?”
Because it is automated. They do not need your name. They need an open remote login, a reused password, or one inbox with no MFA.
If you run a business under 250 people, be honest in the comments:
Have you ever TESTED a restore from backup, or do you just HOPE it works?
