With all the scams going around we recommend you freeze your credit. (this is FREE to do)
Here is the information you need to do this:
HOW TO SETUP CREDIT FREEZES
A credit freeze or security freeze is the best way to secure your financial identity. With a freeze on your credit on ALL THREE MAJOR CREDIT BUREAUS, no one can open a new line of credit in your name if your identity is stolen.
Note that once you set these freezes up on your credit, even YOU will not be able to open a new line of credit of any type unless you “thaw” your credit freeze.
Visit all three of the bureau web sites below, set up a free account with each one, and follow the instructions to set up the freeze on your credit.
Experian: https://www.experian.com/help/credit-freeze/
• If you have not set up an account with Experian already, click the CREATE A FREE ACCOUNT button. If you already have an account, click the SIGN IN button.
• Follow the instructions to freeze your credit with Experian.
Equifax: https://www.equifax.com/personal/credit-report-services/credit-freeze/
• If you have not set up an account with Equifax already, click the PLACE A SECURITY FREEZE button. If you already have an account, click the SIGN IN button.
• Follow the instructions to freeze your credit with Equifax.
Transunion: https://www.transunion.com/credit-freeze
• If you have not set up an account with Transunion already, click the ADD FREEZE button. If you already have an account, click the SIGN IN button.
• Follow the instructions to freeze your credit with Transunion.
Once your credit has been frozen with all three credit bureaus, please remember that you CANNOT OPEN A NEW LINE OF CREDIT until you thaw it.
If you are applying for a new line of credit, you will need to ask them which credit bureau they use to check your credit. Then, login to whichever one they use to temporarily lift the freeze or “thaw” the credit freeze with that credit bureau.
