Harsh? Maybe. But iron sharpens iron, and the opposite is just as true.

If you want to level up in life, you need to be selective about the people you surround yourself with.

But here's the part most people overlook. Successful people are selective, too. Why should they want YOU in their circle?

You don't need money, connections, or a head start. You need drive, initiative, and a willingness to invest in yourself.

Success can make you LESS sympathetic toward others.

Sounds counterintuitive, doesn't it?

But when you've overcome adversity, you start recognizing how much our choices dictate our circumstances.

And it becomes increasingly difficult to sympathize with people who continue making poor choices while complaining about the results.

The reality is, you can't want something better for someone more than they want it for themselves.

When you look at successful teams, businesses and organizations, they tend to arrive at many of the same places. Strong culture. Good people. Clear expectations. Doing things the right way.

There’s no single personality required to be a great leader.

There are just a lot of different ways to get to the same place.

Zach VanValkenburg made the Raiders practice squad, signed a lease in Vegas, and got cut before the first game. Two weeks later, he was driving home to Michigan when the Rams called.

That’s life in the NFL when you’re not a highly drafted player with millions of dollars invested in your success. Your margin for error is a hell of a lot smaller.

Your standards shape your identity.

Wes Watson might be the saddest story on the internet right now.

Not because he failed. Because for a while, a lot of us actually wanted his redemption story to be true.

And here’s the strange part: Wes Watson said some genuinely profound things.

“Strength is restraint.”

“Adversity introduces a man to himself.”

There were lessons worth hearing. Unfortunately, there’s also a lesson in what happened to the guy delivering them.

On the internet, anyone can be anything.

Eventually, though, people tend to show you who they really are.
