Meta reveals its first pair of AR glasses: Mark Zuckerberg’s ‘time machine’ to the future.
At Meta’s annual Connect event, Zuckerberg introduced Orion, Meta’s first augmented reality (AR) glasses. Crafted from magnesium alloy and powered by custom silicon, the glasses overlay digital content onto the real world using holograms. Unlike bulky headsets, Orion is lightweight, under 100 grams, and completely wireless. Users can interact with the device through hand-tracking, voice commands, and neural interfaces worn on the wrist.
While Zuckerberg didn’t demonstrate the glasses himself, a video showed test users, including Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, exploring its functions, such as viewing messages and images. Meta also plans to add real-time language translation and video-generation capabilities by the end of the year.
However, consumers will need to wait until 2027 for a commercial release, as Meta works to make the glasses smaller, more stylish, and affordable.
