A cyber expert told Tech.co that attackers no longer need to get close to a target to plan an attack. Olga Polishchuk, VP of investigations at ZeroFox, says criminals piece together social media posts, data broker records, and AI-generated content to build what she calls a "pattern of life." She points to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who recently had a Molotov cocktail thrown at his house, as an example of how real these threats have become.

This matters because AI has made gathering and faking information much faster and cheaper. Polishchuk says consumer AI tools can be tricked into writing convincing phishing emails, and deepfakes can now fake a face or voice on a call. Her warning is blunt: "Human instincts no longer work at this point."
