On August 26, the National Weather Service logged reports of hail and damaging wind across parts of north Tarrant and Wise counties -- including one-inch hail in the Keller area and larger stones near Alliance.
Here is the part most people do not know about wind and hail: it usually does not leak right away. It lifts the seal strip, bruises the shingle mat, or loosens a ridge cap you cannot see from your driveway. Most people find out during the next heavy rain -- and forecasters expect a strong El Nino this winter, which for North Texas has usually meant a wetter October through March.
If you notice missing shingles, damaged gutters, granules collecting in the downspouts, or a new stain on a ceiling, photograph it and contact your insurer for claim guidance.
