Last week we flipped the switch on our new the solar array! Installed over the past few spring months, our 50kw system is designed to offset 95-105% of crews annual usage.
This upgrade has been in the planning stage for a long time – our initial hopes to put the array on the roof were dashed when we learned the ol’ Barn just couldn’t handle the weight. However, this new arrangement allowed us to install more panels, making the Crew building almost completely solar-powered.

What’s next on the upgrade list? Who knows. Maybe one of those bonkers Biosphere structures they built in Arizona in the 80s, that could be cool!

One of the things we’re most excited for in 2022 is adding solar capabilities to The Barn! But first…some dying trees have to be cleared away. This tree sat right by the entrance to Crew and will be dearly remembered for providing us with chicken of the woods (iykyk) every year. There still lots of work to be done as we make the move to solar, plenty of updates on the way!

This project was our very own ice bucket challenge (how’s that for a timely reference)! This piece was over a year in the making. The main challenge was the spiral injection molded design, while working in waterproofing, lighting, and food-grade materials. Not to pat ourselves on the back too hard (it is our account after all), but we were very proud with how this turned out.

Sometimes all it takes is a fine touch detail to elevate a retail display piece! Details like the real wreath on this Sandeman display, along with its fold-flat/pop-up lantern and the bent-metal detailing. Perfect for a holiday “Port” in a Winter storm.

As we wind down and enable our out-of-office replies, the team at Crew wishes you and yours a healthy and safe holiday full of tons of joyous details.

We don’t know what your Thanksgiving traditions are, but here at Crew it just doesn’t feel like Thanksgiving until the Perrier Jouet bottle service ice bucket makes its grand appearance at the dinner table. Something about the color changing globe, the detailed screen print graphics on the bucket, and the illuminated ice makes us hungry for turkey and stuffing… and champagne!!! Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

We’re a far way out from pool season, but at Crew “cool lit signs” is a year-round affair. While this piece never made it past the prototype stage, the metal-printed water effect combined with acrylic and rope neon was always a crowd favorite here.

It’s fall in Connecticut, which means the leaves turn and older buildings take on a classic vintage look, like this Polyresin Hardware Store we manufactured as part of a set for Jack Daniels. Getting to work out the sculpts and painting methods for pieces like this is always the most rewarding part of bringing these detailed structures to life!

How is it mid-September already? The sun has begun setting a bit earlier, so it’s time to bring out the lit signs. This Blue Buffalo window sign is a quadruple threat – A light up, dual-sided piece with flame-polished acrylic lettering and multiple hanging/mounting options. The window face lights up and has beautiful, laser-cut lettering and logo details, all of which work to create a backlight effect for the interior face.

Crew loves a well-designed, multi-material project. This metal recreation of the Victoria’s Secret Tease bottle is 2 sided, has a printed mirror face, dynamically incorporated graphic surfaces, and colorful tulle accents on the neck. We’d love to come up with some clever tease-related wordplay, but the truth is, this piece speaks for itself.

We're not sure exactly what year we produced this Mtn Dew Skate Ramp Case Stacker, but all evidence points to it being older than 13 year old 2021 skateboarding bronze medalist Sky Brown. Made from corrugated cardboard and designed to break down easily, this case stacker has all the qualities that make it an effective display, but a terrible Olympian
