Greetings, KU CS/IT Alum,
Big things have been happening in your graduate program and we’re writing to you to ask for your help. We’ve been looking to grow our program, but one of the stumbling blocks is that people have busy lives and have trouble making it to campus. We listened when many of you told us this, and found a way to allow graduate students to attend classes remotely.
A simple solution would have been to offer our courses online, but we believe that an asynchronous approach is inadequate due to a lack of quality interaction among students and instructors.
We are pleased to announce that we are now using a course delivery method that provides students the best possible experience by permitting attendance without being physically in the classroom. Known as the real-time virtual classroom (RTVC),
it makes it possible for our students to attend classes from remote locations while retaining the interactive experience previously available only by being present on campus.
Using a collection of browser-based, interactive software tools, instructors and students can stream audio, video, and chat room messages to each other during class. The course instructor can display anything that can be displayed in a conventional classroom to remote attendees simultaneously. Students attending remotely can ask questions and participate in discussions. They can even make presentations to the class from anywhere using their own computer’s desktop, microphone, and camera.
Here’s where we could use your help. We’re hoping you’ll be willing to share this message with people you know who might be interested. People at work or in your social circle probably know that you are a KU graduate. If they’re at all interested in continuing their education, tell them we’ve prepared a short video about our program and RTVC. It takes only a shade more than a minute to watch. Can you give them this link https://youtu.be/niND4FxU5B4 and forward them our message, which is attached as a jpeg?
Dr. Spiegel, our graduate coordinator, would be happy to hear from your co-workers and friends at [email protected]. Or, anyone can call our office at 610-683-4340 and leave a message. We promise to respond quickly, often the same day, and to address all questions and concerns.
We appreciate your willingness to share this message with people you think would find it interesting. We’d also be happy to come to your workplace and make an on-site presentation. We’ll even bring the refreshments.
