This past Saturday about twenty musicians/musical groups came to Laguna to hang out on various street corners and play their music. Given the event's name, I immediately had in my noggin a visual image of the event, and of course, it was French. This is my take: French from the 1920's. Did it just for fun. Not every design has to be for money—besides, my client this time didn't talk back or ask me to do it in taupe and make her more glam. Ahh, clients!

Lately I have been doing a lot of book design so I thought, time to add a page about this on my website. On this page are a number of book covers and also some two-page spreads from the body of the books. Enjoy!

What do you do when a client hands you two examples of bird clip art and tells you how nice they are?

Oh boy… sigh, and then start looking for images of real ospey. Found a couple that worked and placed them in Adobe Illustrator and then started using them as reference to draw an ospey in flight and looking about to pounce. Wanted the energy that conveyed.

Kept it simple and it still took me about four hours to keep refining and further refining it. Typography kept simple as well and then selected colors to reflect the nature surrounding the resort. End result: something I hope that is simple, natural and still refined with some elegance to it… exactly like the enterprise it is to represent.

Recently added to my website's "logos" page. Logo and corporate identity developments form the backbone of literally every other project. Because this is so fundemental to any designer's work, looking at logos gives you an almost immediate sense of the designer's thinking, skill sets and approaches to design.
