SafeZone

SafeZone SafeZone is designed to reduce or prevent gun violence.

SafeZone technology turns passive surveillance video systems into active systems capable of detecting the presence of weapons. The system can be integrated with most existing video surveillance systems, significantly increasing the utility of cameras and providing a new layer of safety at schools, military facilities, transportation hubs, resorts, sporting arenas, etc. In seconds, SafeZone can det

ect an exposed firearm, alert responders and provide explicit real time details about the threat including the type of weapon(s) present and the precise location and movement of a shooter.

BBC podcast examines "deep learning." Experts site big breakthrough: speed of computers combined with big data sets and "back propagation," the ability for computers to learn from_correct mistakes, means computers are able to adapt. Two areas where deep learning has propelled success: speech and object recognition. "People recognize very well that what we need is new ideas [for uses of computer learning]," Geoffrey Hinton, University of Toronto and pioneer in the field of deep learning. http://on.fb.me/1FSj4Dx

New technology changes astronomy with computer driven automated search for supernovae—no longer relying on humans to spend months at a time staring into the sky hoping to catch an explosion. Astronomers are stoked.

Might we apply the same concept to reducing gun violence with computer driven automated search technology for firearm detection—no longer relying on humans to stare into banks of monitors for hours on end?

That’s the idea. Now if only those who want to “do something” about gun violence would catch up with astronomers!

Let’s do this!

Most telescope cameras can only capture a small patch of sky at a time. But a new camera has a much larger field of view, and its backers are hoping for help in deciphering its reams of data.

It does not matter which side of the gun debate you are on, children should not have to worry about whether their school is safe. Let's not let personal bias get in the way of solving this terrible problem.

Can you hear them now? After they’re dead and gone? On the news, day after day, all I hear is another school shooting here and another killing there. And people say, “It’s sad, they were so young, oh, another one.” Yeah, another one. Day after day, death after death, child after child. When will it…

Concerned citizens, collaborative efforts and thoughtful journalism could turn the tide for gun violence in Philadelphia. Sadly, lack of funding has curtailed the Gun Crisis Reporting Project. But the conversation and the search for solutions continues. Join the conversation at http://guncrisis.org

The Philadelphia Gun Crisis Reporting Project http //guncrisis org/ made up of independent journalists documenting nearly every incident of gun violence in the city since 2012   stopped daily

Aim. Fire. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. How many more before we, as a country, take decisive action on protecting our children from gun violence?

One of 4 students injured during a shooting at a Washington high school has died, raising the death toll to two.

Author Johnson advises "The response time should be limited to 1 to 3 seconds. Plan to install monitoring technology at three different locations with three different monitors. We cannot allow the school shooter to get past the front door."

We concur.

In “Protecting America's Students at School: School Safety Recommendations For 2013 and Beyond” (published by AuthorHouse), author Clarence Johnson gives helpful advice on how to create a safe school zone. The book will...

Arapahoe Sheriff's report reveals chilling details about shooter's plans to attack Arapahoe HS last December. As long as we persist in believing that everything that can be, is being done to prevent this from happening again, people bent on committing violence will continue to have the advantage.

In 1969, Buzz Aldrin’s historical step onto the moon leapt mankind into an era of technological possibility. The awesome power of technology was to be used to solve all of our big problems. Fast forward to present day, and what's happened? Are mobile apps all we have to show for ourselves? Journalis…

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. The answer is not more guns in schools, but fewer. One solution: stop a gunman before he gets off the first shot. Let's add gun detection to the debate about how to prevent the next school shooting.

Knee-jerk responses make bad law, and that's why we support Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon's decision Monday to veto a bill that would allow specially desig
