RickChow was found not guilty of murder on June 1, 2026, by a Richland County jury in South Carolina in connection with the 2023 shooting death of 14-year-old .

The jury deliberated for roughly eight hours before returning the not-guilty verdict, bringing a five-day trial at the Richland County Courthouse to a close.

On May 28, 2023, Rick Chow and his son, Andy, pursued Carmack-Belton from their Shell gas station on Parklane Road in Columbia, South Carolina, after accusing him of stealing water bottles.

After a chase that covered more than 100 yards, Chow fired a single shot from a .45-caliber G***k pistol, striking Carmack-Belton in the back and killing him. Surveillance footage from the store later showed that the teenager had not stolen anything.

Following the acquittal, Chow was expected to be released from jail, where he had been held without bond since his arrest nearly three years ago. The Carmack-Belton family's attorney, Todd Rutherford, expressed disappointment with the verdict but called for peace, while confirming the family intends to continue pursuing its pending wrongful death lawsuit against Chow.
