Sometimes, I’m reminded of how much I've learned. As tech professionals, we often get so used to our routines that we forget not everyone has the same tech knowledge. That’s where soft skills come in—many people find technology intimidating.

Recently, my father experienced a Facebook cloning scam. I noticed it right away and let him know. In moments like this, tech support, customer service, and patience all blend into one skill. I connected to his computer remotely and guided him step-by-step through changing his Facebook password and logging out of all devices. Now, his account is secure with a more complex password.

It’s essential to monitor your Facebook account. If people are receiving friend requests from you but are already connected, it's a good idea to change your password. These scams are more common than you might think, so staying alert and protecting yourself is crucial.

A customer complained about a laptop running very slow. The laptop is in good condition, and the customer does not necessarily need to buy a new one. We completed the diagnosis and determined that we could upgrade the mechanical drive to an SSD. The laptop does have the capability of using an m.2 drive, but a standard SSD is the cheaper alternative. We also determined that the RAM is only 4GB out of a possible 32GB. We can upgrade these components and significantly improve the functionality of this laptop. This will extend the usefulness of this device for a long time to come.

These are some of the issues with buying a standard laptop to save some money. They generally use components that you will need to upgrade later. It will largely depend on your usage.

This laptop is 12 years old. It was abandoned by the previous owner because it would not start. I changed the MOBO, and it worked fine, so I kept it. That was several years ago. I upgraded the processor to a 3rd gen i7-3612QM and changed the CD player to a hard drive caddy with a 1TB SSD. The main drive has a 250 GB SSD, and the maximum RAM is 8 GB. I also installed the fingerprint scanner. The only thing this has needed in all that time was a set of replacement speakers that was relatively inexpensive. I said all that to say this; you don't always "NEED" a new laptop. You can upgrade the one you have, and it will change your entire laptop outlook. You can invest less money on the upgrade and keep the one you are used to. This laptop is from 2012, now running Windows 10, and is also the most recent Office version. I have custom computers that do anything I need that is more heavy-duty. It was dusty inside so I cleaned it.😁
