You Don't Need a $5,000 Website

A contractor website doesn't need spinning graphics, complicated animations and 50 pages nobody reads.

It needs to establish trust and generate leads.
That means:
✅ Professional appearance
✅ Clear services
✅ Service areas
✅ Real project photos
✅ Reviews and trust factors
✅ Strong calls to action
✅ Easy phone and estimate buttons
✅ Built correctly for Google

That's why I offer standalone contractor websites as well as full marketing plans.

If all you need is a better website, I'm not going to try to sell you ten other services.

And if you need more, we can add what makes sense.
Start where you are. Build from there.

Maybe You Don't Need More Traffic

Contractors hear this constantly:
“You need more website traffic.”

Maybe.

But what if people are already visiting your website and not calling?
Then buying more traffic just sends more people to something that isn't working.

Before spending more money, I'd look at:
Does the site immediately explain what you do?
Is there a strong reason to trust you?
Can people easily call or request an estimate?
Does it look good on a phone?
Are your reviews visible?
Are your service areas obvious?
Is there a clear next step?

Sometimes the smartest marketing move isn't spending more money.

It's fixing what's already there.

— Referrals Aren't a Marketing Plan

Don't get me wrong. Referrals are fantastic.
But there's one problem with building your entire business around referrals:

You can't control when the phone rings.

Good contractor marketing doesn't replace referrals.
It supports them.

Someone hears about your company from a friend.
What do they do next?
They look you up.
Your website, reviews, Google presence and social media should reinforce what that friend already told them:
This is a contractor I can trust.
Be easy to find.
Give them a reason to trust you.
Make it easy to contact you.

That's contractor marketing.

You Don't Need to Post Every Day
Contractors constantly hear:
“You need to post on social media every day.”
No you don't.
I'd rather see a contractor make 2–4 useful posts every week than throw seven pieces of garbage online just to say they posted something.

Show projects.
Answer homeowner questions.
Give useful advice.
Introduce your crew.
Share reviews.

Quality + consistency beats posting just for the sake of posting.

Your Reviews Are Selling For You

A homeowner may never tell you this:
They read your reviews before they called you.
Your reviews are working 24 hours a day telling potential customers what it's like to do business with your company.

Don't wait until you desperately need reviews.

Make asking for one part of your normal process after every successful job.

You finished the job.
The homeowner is happy.
That's the time to ask.

Your Competitor May Not Be Better Than You

Here's something contractors need to understand:
The company getting the most calls online isn't necessarily the best contractor.

Sometimes they're simply the contractor who looks best when the homeowner searches.

Better website.
More reviews.
Better Google presence.
Recent project photos.
Clearer message.
Easy way to request an estimate.

Meanwhile, a contractor with 20 years of experience and better workmanship is sitting three pages down on Google wondering why the phone is slow.

Being good at your trade isn't enough if homeowners can't find you.

That's the problem good marketing is supposed to solve.

FREE MARKETING TIP #2: Check Your Google Business Profile

When was the last time you actually looked at your Google Business Profile?

Not as the owner.

As a homeowner deciding who to call.

Google your company and take a look.

❓ Are your services accurate?
❓ Are your hours and phone number correct?
❓ Do you have recent job photos?
❓ Are customers leaving reviews?
❓ Are you responding to them?
❓ Have you posted anything recently?

For a lot of contractors, their Google Business Profile gets set up once and then forgotten.

Meanwhile, homeowners are using it to decide whether you're worth calling.

Your Google Business Profile is one of the first impressions your company makes online. Make sure it represents your business the way you want it to.

How Much Should a Contractor Spend on Marketing?

Here's my answer:
Enough to generate profitable work — and not a dollar more than you need to.

A one-man contractor shouldn't necessarily have the same marketing plan as a roofing company with three salespeople.

A company looking for five more jobs a month doesn't need the same system as one trying to open a second location.

That's why I don't believe in forcing every contractor into the same package.

We can start small.
A website.
Local SEO.
Google Business Profile optimization.
Content.
Social media.
Lead capture.

Or combine the pieces that make sense for your business and your budget.

Then grow it when the results justify it.

That's how contractor marketing should work.

Stop Paying for Stuff You Don't Need

One of the biggest problems with contractor marketing?
Companies try to sell you a package.

Website. SEO. Social media. Ads. Email. Content. CRM. Automation.
Whether you need all of it or not.

I don't believe contractor marketing should work that way.

Maybe you only need a better website.
Maybe your website is fine, but nobody can find you on Google.
Maybe your Google Business Profile needs work.
Maybe you need help creating content and staying visible.
Or maybe you're ready for a complete marketing system.
Your marketing plan should fit your business — not the other way around.

Tell me what you want to accomplish, what you're comfortable spending, and we'll figure out what makes sense.

Your Camera Roll Is Marketing

You don't need professional photography for every job.
You just need to remember to take pictures.
📸 Before
📸 During
📸 After

One roofing job, remodel, paint job, HVAC installation or concrete project can give you enough content for several social media posts.

Show the problem.
Show the work.
Show the finished product.

Some of the best marketing content contractors have is already sitting in their camera roll.
Use it.
