🚨 YOUR BELONGINGS ARE YOUR LIFE. KNOW WHO YOU’RE TRUSTING TO MOVE THEM.

Imagine hiring a moving company, paying thousands of dollars, and waiting weeks for your belongings to arrive, only to be told the truck carrying everything you own has been stolen.

That’s exactly the nightmare described in a CBS News Texas I-Team investigation.

A Texas couple hired a moving company for their interstate relocation. Their belongings never arrived as promised. They later learned their shipment had been handed off to another carrier.

They were told the truck and driver had disappeared in Montana.

But an Apple AirTag told a completely different story.

Their belongings were still sitting in a storage unit near Dallas, mixed with other customers’ property. When the shipment was recovered, customers reported damaged belongings, water damage, and mold.

Think about that. Everything these families owned, their furniture, memories, and personal possessions, was suddenly out of their control.

This is why choosing a legitimate, accountable moving company matters.

And here’s something worth understanding: a company can have excellent online reviews, an impressive website, and even legitimate operating authority, and you still need to know who is actually handling your move.

At First Class Relocation & Storage, we believe customers deserve transparency before the first box is loaded.

✅ We are a direct moving carrier, not a broker.

✅ Dedicated truck and dedicated moving team.

✅ No combining your belongings with other customers’ shipments.

✅ Direct transportation without handing your shipment off to an unknown carrier.

✅ Clear communication and accountability from pickup through delivery.

We’re not claiming every broker or third-party carrier is dishonest. But customers should never be left wondering who’s transporting their belongings, where they’re being stored, or when they’ll arrive.

Before you hire a mover, ask one simple question:

“Will YOUR company and YOUR crew be handling my belongings from pickup to delivery, or will my move be transferred to someone else?”

The answer could save you thousands of dollars and an unimaginable amount of stress.

At First Class, we believe moving companies should earn your trust, not simply collect your deposit.

Your move. Our responsibility.

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE.

INDUSTRY SPOTLIGHT | RICKY PATNAUDE

Today, Ricky Patnaude shared his official introduction as a Professional Van Operator with Imlach Group, an agent for Atlas Van Lines.

And I wanted to take a moment to recognize a guy who's earned his place behind that wheel.

For those outside the household goods industry, a Professional Van Operator is a whole lot more than a truck driver.

You're responsible for the shipment, the crew, the equipment, the paperwork, and the customer's experience from origin to destination.

You're expected to make decisions, solve problems, protect people's belongings, and represent your carrier professionally, often thousands of miles from home.

That's a responsibility you earn the right to carry.

I've been in this industry since 2008, and I've worked alongside hundreds of movers. In my opinion, there's an exceptional 5% who truly understand this business from the ground up.

Ricky is one of those professionals.

He has the experience, the work ethic, and the understanding of the craft that separate a good mover from someone you can confidently put in charge of an entire shipment.

Ricky spent part of his career with us at First Class Relocation & Storage, and seeing him continue his journey into the Atlas system is pretty special.

It also reminds me of something.

Before I owned a moving company, I was the guy looking for my next opportunity. I had some phenomenal people give me those opportunities over the years, and I know several of them are reading this right now.

Those opportunities mattered.

And I hope we never lose sight of how important it is to give good people room to grow.

There's enough negativity in this industry. Let's recognize the people who are doing it right.

The experienced drivers who take pride in their loads. The crew leaders who teach the next generation. The owners who give people a chance. And the professionals who keep pushing themselves to become better at what they do.

Because no matter what name is on the truck, we're all representing the same profession.

And when one of our own advances, that's worth celebrating.

Ricky, I appreciate you sharing this with me.

You've put years into developing your craft, and it's great to see another respected operation recognize what you bring to the table.

I wish you nothing but continued success with Imlach Group and the Atlas Van Lines family.

To every professional in this industry: Never forget who gave you an opportunity, and never hesitate to celebrate someone who's earned their next one.

Congratulations, Ricky.

The truck may be different, but the work ethic goes with you.

From Moving Homes to Helping Build Something Bigger.

Yesterday, our team at First Class Relocation & Storage spent a good portion of the day helping with the transformation of River House, formerly known as Dainty Dillo.

What's pretty cool about this one is the relationship behind it.

Over the years, we've had the opportunity to move this family's parents several times throughout Texas, including a relocation all the way to Las Vegas, with another potential move to Florida on the horizon.

We've also helped their daughter with her own relocation, handled several residential moves, and assisted with staging a handful of Airbnb properties along the way.

Now, we're getting to be a small part of their next chapter as they breathe new life into a local business.

That's one of my favorite things about this industry.
You never really know where a relationship that starts with moving a few pieces of furniture might lead.

Sometimes it's another move. Sometimes it's a referral. And sometimes, years later, you're standing inside a business helping the same people bring an entirely new vision to life.

We've always believed that the best business relationships aren't built around a single transaction. They're built by showing up, doing good work, and giving people a reason to call you again.

We're excited to see what the new owners have planned for River House and appreciate the opportunity to be involved.

Different spaces. Different projects. Same relationships.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ THIS ONE CARRIED SOME WEIGHT. LITERALLY.

When Kevin, Director of Public Sector Strategy & Business Development at Indeed, told us the vast majority of his previous relocations had been handled by the large national moving providers, we knew the bar was already high.

Challenge accepted.

Nearly 30,000 pounds of household goods.
Then plans changed.

Closing on the new home wasn’t complete, so the entire shipment needed to go into climate controlled storage before final delivery.

We didn’t handle 30,000 pounds once.
We handled it twice.

🎹 Piano upstairs
🏋️ Commercial grade gym downstairs
📦 Nearly 30,000 pounds handled twice
🏠 Climate controlled storage between homes
🚛 Interstate relocation from beginning to end

Every piece had to be protected, stored, reloaded, transported again and placed exactly where it belonged.

This wasn’t just about moving weight. It was about communication, coordination, attention to detail and adapting when the original plan changed.
So when someone accustomed to the large national carriers finishes a relocation like this and takes the time to leave FCRS a detailed 5 STAR REVIEW, that carries some weight with us.

Kevin trusted us with a complicated relocation.
We executed.

We’re not out to be the largest moving company.
We’re here to execute.

When the move is heavy, complicated, valuable or the plan changes halfway through, that’s when you find out who you actually hired.

30,000 POUNDS.
HANDLED TWICE.
PIANO UP.
GYM DOWN.
ONE TEAM.
ONE STANDARD.
FIRST CLASS.

And at the end of the day, it’s pretty simple.
If your move matters, you’ll call us.

If it doesn’t, call the other guys.

09/23/2026

BEFORE YOU BOOK AN INTERSTATE MOVE, UNDERSTAND WHAT A MOVING BROKER ACTUALLY IS.

You’ve got an out of state move coming up.

You go to Google, find three moving companies, and get three quotes.

$6,500

$7,200

$11,780

Naturally, you look at the $11,780 quote and think:

“Why would I pay that much more?”

But there may be a major difference hiding behind those numbers.

You may not be comparing three moving companies offering the same service.

You may be comparing a direct carrier against moving brokers.

A moving broker typically doesn’t perform the actual transportation. They arrange the move and then find a motor carrier to service it.

The person selling your move may never touch a box, load your furniture, drive the truck, or deliver your belongings.

And this is where I’ve watched things go sideways.

The sales process often starts with a verbal inventory.

Couches. Beds. Dressers. Tables.

“How many boxes do you think you’ll have?”

Your inventory is converted into an estimated amount of cubic footage, and the quote is built around that estimated space.

But there’s an obvious problem:

You aren’t packed yet.

The closets aren’t finished. The garage isn’t done. The kitchen isn’t packed.

You might estimate 30 boxes when the final number ends up being 80, 100, or more.

Then, a few days before the move, comes what is often called the:

“QA Call.”

Now you ARE packed.

Your inventory gets updated.

More boxes.

More items.

More cubic footage.

More money.

Except now you’re only days away from moving.

Your house may be sold. Your lease may be ending. Hotels may already be booked. Your family is preparing to leave.

Your options are getting smaller by the hour.

Then moving day arrives, and this may be the first time you meet the company actually performing your move.

Not the salesperson.

Not necessarily the company name you originally called.

The carrier.

And now there may be additional charges depending on the shipment and conditions.

Tractor trailer can’t access the neighborhood?

Shuttle charge.

Loose items require additional packing?

Packing charge.

Shipment occupies more space than originally estimated?

More space. More money.

Then your belongings leave.

And this is the part of the broker model we want families to understand.

Depending on the service you purchased, your shipment may not be going directly from your old home to your new one.

It may be consolidated with other shipments.

It may be transferred.

It may be placed into storage while waiting for transportation.

Another carrier may become involved.

Your shipment may ultimately travel alongside several other customers’ belongings.

That can help explain why some broker quotes initially appear dramatically cheaper than dedicated transportation.

You may not be comparing the same service.

One quote may represent a dedicated move with a direct carrier.

Another may represent space within a transportation network where the shipment can be consolidated, transferred, stored, or handled by different parties along the way.

And when that process goes wrong, it can go very wrong.

I’m not writing this because I read about it online.

I’m writing this because I’ve stood across from families after it happened.

I’ve looked a wife in the eyes after her family lost $11,000 to a scam moving operation and helped walk that family through what a professional move was supposed to look like.

I’ve walked into situations where families had already handed over thousands in deposits and were suddenly being told they needed thousands more.

Then we’re trying to figure out how to complete their move while saving every dollar possible because a large portion of their moving budget is already gone.

And many of these families thought they did everything right.

They went to Google.

They looked at reviews.

They visited the website.

They checked out the company at a surface level.

They got multiple estimates.

And they chose what appeared to be the better deal.

But surface research and real due diligence are two very different things.

Dig deeper.

Look up the company’s USDOT and MC information.

Find out whether they are actually registered as a broker or carrier.

Look at complaint history and patterns, not just the overall star rating.

Read the negative reviews and look for the same issues appearing repeatedly.

Large deposits.

Last minute price increases.

Different companies showing up on moving day.

Unexpected carrier changes.

Additional charges.

Extended delivery delays.

Difficulty reaching someone after pickup.

Customers who didn’t know who actually had their belongings.

Look at how long the company has operated under its current authority.

Read the paperwork you’re being asked to sign.

Verify who will actually be responsible for transporting your shipment.

One complaint is a complaint. A repeated pattern is something you should pay attention to.

That’s why we want families to understand moving brokers before they book, not after they’ve handed over a deposit and their belongings.

This isn’t about saying every broker is a scam.

It isn’t about saying the most expensive estimate is automatically the best estimate.

It’s about knowing who you are hiring and what service you are actually purchasing.

Before giving anyone a deposit, ask:

Are you a broker or the motor carrier actually performing my move?

Who owns the equipment coming to my home?

Who employs the crew?

Has my actual carrier already been assigned?

Is my transportation dedicated or consolidated?

Can my belongings be transferred or placed into storage?

Can another carrier take possession of my shipment?

What can cause my price to change?

Who is responsible if something goes wrong?

DON’T JUST ASK WHY ONE QUOTE COSTS MORE.
ASK WHY ANOTHER ONE COSTS SO MUCH LESS.

There may be a very important difference in what you’re actually buying.

At First Class Relocation & Storage, our dedicated interstate moves are handled as a direct carrier.

Our equipment. Our crews. Our responsibility.

We want families to know the difference before moving day, not after something has already gone wrong.

Another 5-star review, and we couldn't be more grateful.

One of the greatest compliments we can receive is earning the trust of a family that had a bad experience with another moving company. That's exactly why we do what we do.

At First Class Relocation & Storage, every move is handled by our own team from start to finish. No brokers. No subcontractors. Just honest communication, careful handling, and a commitment to treating your home and belongings with the respect they deserve.

Thank you, Ashwitha, for trusting us with your move from Dallas to Austin and for taking the time to share your experience. Reviews like yours mean the world to our family-owned business.
If you're planning a move and want to know exactly who's showing up at your door, give us a call. We'd be honored to earn your trust too.

Before you hand your life to a moving company, watch this.

Ask who's actually driving the truck. Ask if the quote is locked. Ask what happens if your new place isn't ready.

If they get cagey, you already have your answer.
