If you're a football (soccer) aficionado and interested in following derbies (classic rivalries) my friend Jerry has built a very niche website to scratch that very particular itch.

Derby.ist provides an up-to-date match calendar of football derbies, historical results, and video highlights of past games.

There's also a newsletter offering the same, that's pushed to your inbox every Monday.

It's a very cool data-driven project. I hope you find it interesting.

We just published the April numbers for Tallest Tree Digital's Public Policy SEO Rankings.

For the national groups, Tax Foundation , The Policy Circle, The Bill of Rights Institute, Institute for Family Studies, and CFA Institute make up the top 5.

For state groups, The Buckeye Institute, Illinois Policy, Public Policy Institute of California, The Cardinal Institute for West Virginia Policy, and Empire Center for Public Policy the list.

We added a low-traffic filter to this month's ranking. National groups with less than 300 organic visits per month or state groups with less than 30 organic visits per month were dropped from the list. This keep groups from ranking highly for generating 12 visits when they model predicted they would generate 3 visits, for example. Yes, this group would be generating 4x the predicted traffic, but we don't think groups with these low numbers have much in the way of SEO best practices to confer to others, which is really the point of this ranking.

We also added a couple handfuls of additional groups to the ranking this month. If you'd like to be added to the ranking, please comment or DM me.

Think tanks should especially be paying attention to how they are posting news media appearances like op-eds to their websites. Duplicating content from other websites on your site may be seen as bad behavior and result in Google ranking your site lower than it would otherwise.

In this episode Cord & Einar discuss the title tag length, "link juice," AMP is dead, measuring forms with GA4, how Googlebot handles iframes, and how to think about copies of original content on the web.

This is only one data point, but it's encouraging to see a 20,000+ click spike in Google News after months of working on technical cleanup and weeks of reorganizing tags and categories around topics that are more relevant to news readers.

Going forward, we think we should be able to grow Google News into as big a source of traffic for this client as apps like SmartNews and NewsBreak App have been.

We made changes that affected every post for this large publication on May 30 and June 13. Both changes prompted Googlebot to crawl the entire site and the new schema data we added to this site immediately showed up under the "Enhancements" heading in GSC.
