Water utilities are adopting digital technologies at a faster rate than before and 2023 will be no different — digital will continue to play a key role in all facets of the water industry. There are so many reasons utilities stand to benefit when they embrace digital water solutions, including automation, visualization, and meaningful use of data.

One of the main reasons for water utilities to adopt digitization is to improve their water quality monitoring and expertise. Emerging utility data sources can help utilities provide more detailed information about specific areas of interest — like the water quality that is being delivered to customers.

Digital water monitoring can deliver computation, visualization, communication, and storage via a cloud-based solution that automates analysis and delivers insights for better decision-making for the sector.

With digital water technologies, you will get your results faster and with the added benefit of having done the work in a digital way.

In the utility industry, downtime and outages—from losing power to water shortages and burst pipes—can impact a customer’s day-to-day life, causing safety concerns and costly damages.

But today, Digitization improves the accuracy of operations, which then leads to improvements in performance, ultimately leading to a reduction in costs. Though digitization could be a major exercise with high initial costs, the benefits in terms of higher profits, lower risks, and strategic advantages outweigh the investments and justify the efforts.

In a nutshell, companies can look to get the following benefits:

1. Improved use of data, otherwise embedded deep in service contracts and work orders

2. Real-time information about field employee availability, assets, customer requirements, historical transactions, and equipment positioning

3. Possible identification of new business opportunities

4. Boost efficiency and productivity

Digital transformation are shifting customer expectations as they demand visibility, real-time updates into their utilities, and personalized services to meet their needs. Utility companies must prioritize their workforce at the forefront of the customer experience by providing them with the technology and digital tools needed to meet and exceed these expectations.

What is stopping you to adopt digitization in your utility?
