Those business cards coming in today, got us feeling real happy!

My very first KaitTech Solutions business cards.. and I think I already have my biggest supporter.

Starting this business has been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I’m not a big corporation or a call center. I’m just a real person from Maine who genuinely enjoys helping people with their computers.

A BIOS update that turned into a full troubleshooting job!

This gaming PC needed its motherboard BIOS updated, so I used Gigabyte Q-Flash to update the A520 AORUS Elite motherboard.

The BIOS update itself completed, but the work did not end there.

The PC also needed Secure Boot enabled to meet the requirements for games such as Call of Duty. After the update, I entered the BIOS, confirmed that CSM was disabled, changed Secure Boot into Custom Mode, and restored the factory Secure Boot keys.

That is when things stopped going smoothly.

After saving the BIOS settings, the computer restarted but produced no display signal. The PC powered on, the fans spun, and the lights came on, but the monitor remained black. At one point, the system also began shutting itself back off after roughly 30 seconds.

I then worked through the system step by step instead of assuming the update had ruined the motherboard:

* Checked the monitor, HDMI connection, and display output
* Fully powered down and discharged the computer
* Opened the case and inspected the internal connections
* Tested the RAM sticks individually to rule out a memory or training problem
* Checked the graphics card and watched its power and fan behavior
* Repeated the startup process while checking for any motherboard response
* Returned to the BIOS once the system finally produced a display again
* Verified that CSM remained disabled and continued correcting the Secure Boot configuration
* Worked through additional Windows display issues after the PC booted, including a desktop that was not responding normally to mouse clicks

After a lot of careful troubleshooting, the computer finally booted again, the display returned, and Windows became usable.

This job was a good reminder that BIOS and Secure Boot changes are not always as simple as pressing “update.” A computer can appear completely dead even though the hardware is still functioning. The important part is staying calm, testing one possible cause at a time, and avoiding random changes that could make the situation worse.
