A new Critical Insights AI customer case study from the Los Altos Police Department shows how Critical Insights AI is helping a smaller communications center bring more structure to quality assurance, training, and operational review.

Heather Cressall, ENP, CMCP at Los Altos, shares how the center launched its first formal QA/QI program, moved toward data-driven evaluations, and began using AI-driven simulations to prepare telecommunicators for high-risk scenarios.

911 well-being deserves continued attention.

In Eventide Communications’ article, “Body, Mind, and Soul – A Look at 911 Well-Being in the United States,” Jim Marshall, Mental Health Subject Matter Consultant for Eventide Communications, addresses the real mental and physical strain public safety telecommunicators face and the need for leaders to take deliberate action to protect their teams.

Those working behind the headset experience repeated exposure to crises, cumulative stress, and demanding working conditions, which affect health, retention, and long-term workforce stability.

Stronger support systems, practical standards, and informed leadership are essential for building healthier communications centers.

For agencies focused on supporting telecommunicators and strengthening the future of 911, you can read the full article here: https://www.eventidecommunications.com/body-mind-and-soul-a-look-at-911-well-being-in-the-united-states/

Public safety professionals carry an extraordinary workload, and their mental wellness remains an essential part of sustaining strong teams and healthy agencies.

Late last year, Eventide Communications hosted a webinar on mental wellness in public safety communications, titled “Telecommunicator Mental Wellness: Silent No More.”

The webinar brought together Monica Million, past president of NENA; Telecommunicator Alyssa Eichholtz; Jim Marshall, Director Emeritus of the 911 Training Institute; and Robin Moore, Director of SaaS Operations at Eventide, for a practical discussion on the pressures telecommunicators face and the steps agencies can take to provide stronger support.

The session addressed an issue that continues to matter across 911 and dispatch environments, where cumulative stress and exposure to difficult calls can affect both individual well-being and long-term retention.

As a valuable resource for agencies seeking practical discussion around support, awareness, and healthier work environments for telecommunicators, please watch the webinar here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWMhu6Y0ERw

The Weight of the Headset, by Casey Rives.

National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is a time for appreciation, but also for understanding. Eventide Communications presents “The Weight of the Headset,” written by Casey Rives, Client Solutions Consultant, who reflects on the mental and emotional burden carried by 911 professionals and the need for recognition, advocacy, and stronger support for the people behind the headset.

Her perspective is a reminder that telecommunicators are often the first steady voice in a crisis, even as their work remains underrecognized. Agencies that value their teams must also consider the tools, leadership, and resources that help sustain the people doing such work.

There is a weight that comes with wearing the headset, and it is not physical. It is the mental and emotional load carried during a call and, sometimes, long after it ends.

Earlier last year, PSC Magazine published “Break Point,” an article featuring Monica Million and her advocacy for stronger mental health support in 911. The piece highlights the reality of second-hand trauma and the need for public safety agencies to treat telecommunicator wellness seriously.

At Eventide, this message resonates. Telecommunicators manage intense calls, absorb difficult experiences, all while remaining steady for callers, responders, and the communities they serve. Strong support systems and practical tools help agencies better recognize stress, review call activity, and better support their personnel.

Technology also has a place in that effort. Eventide’s Critical Insights AI helps agencies surface key information faster, improve review workflows, and gain better visibility into call patterns that affect staff well-being.

This conversation remains important. Read “Break Point” here: https://www.eventidecommunications.com/eventide-communications-featured-in-psc-magazine-on-mental-wellness-in-public-safety/
