Adopt don’t shop ❤️

HSSM is experiencing a space crisis! We are currently housing, feeding, cleaning, and caring for 409 animals in-house. Yes, 409 . We are medicating 242 animals on a daily basis, and have 58 additional pets in foster homes that we are providing medical care for on a weekly basis. HSSM also took in 23 additional pets today alone through strays and owner surrenders. It's safe to say that we have our hands full.

In an effort to relieve some space at the shelter and get these animals adopted into loving homes, HSSM is offering $50 adoption fees for puppies and $25 adoption fees ALL adult dogs now until Saturday, April 2nd. Adoption fees include your new pet's spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, up to date vaccinations, up to date preventatives, an ID tag, a free starter bag of pet food, free bed, a heartworm test (if applicable), and a free vet visit within seven days of adoption.

We encourage everyone to please adopt if they can. When you adopt from an animal shelter, you are not only saving that animal's life, but you are making space for additional animals to come in and receive they care they need.

Trick R Treat … hit the street and find you something sweet to eat 🎃👻 House to house and door to door bagging up more and MORE! 🍬 🍭 The countdown is on! Sunset is marked at 6:09 PM so expect to see kids roaming the hoods starting at about 5. 🧛🏻‍♂️

I hope the map helps as a guide of what bigger areas to visit. Follow the zombies 🧟‍♂️ 🧟‍♀️ as they show the way to treats in bigger areas. The Manors show you special spots that are decorated extra or that are passing out special treats or those new folks to Long Beach that are experiencing this all for the first time. If you touch or click on an icon the description loads at the bottom of your map and will tell you a little about the spot and maybe have a few photos to show off. Generally, if the house is lit up, the porch light is on or you see a crowd and hear spooky sounds … they are ready to see your costumes and hand out candy to avoid those tricks.

outstanding! The wonderful folks at the Humane Society of South Mississippi are on to a great idea.

In an effort to reduce the pet overpopulation crisis along the MS Gulf Coast (especially during the summer months) HSSM is offering FREE spay/neuter surgeries for adult dogs that come into the shelter with a litter of puppies. When you surrender puppies to the shelter that you can no longer care for, we will spay/neuter your dog mom and dad for FREE, return them to you and then fix all of the puppies prior to adopting them out at the shelter while providing them with the essential care that they need, at ZERO cost to you!
