"The Silver 17 sounded truly fantastic on the vocals. The level of air and detail that it captured was honestly incredible. The vocalist I was recording is an exceptional singer to begin with, and this mic did a fantastic job of capturing her vocal in a way that felt like she was singing in front of me when played back."

Its starting point was the original S17 capsule, found in our 017 TUBE and 017 FET microphones, and the foundation of the 017 Series’ full-bodied low-end and dense midrange. For the Silver 17, our engineers built on that platform, drawing inspiration from mics like the LOMO 19A18, a rare Soviet-era gem often compared to a C12 and prized for its airiness and top-end response.⁣
⁣
Unlike a center-terminated design, which routes its electrical charge through the center of the capsule, the Silver 17’s edge-terminated capsule applies the charge directly to the diaphragm and routes it through the mounting ring. With no center screw in the way, the diaphragm’s most sensitive area is left free to move.⁣
⁣
