The growth of real-time payments and stablecoins is transforming international transfers and propelling Mexico as a hub for financial innovation, Bitso highlighted during its Stablecoin Conference 2026.

The growth of real-time payments and the advancement of stablecoins in Latin America are accelerating a new era for business, financial services, and international trade. In this context, Bitso seeks to solidify Mexico as one of the continent's leading centers for financial innovation, as announced at the Stablecoin Conference 2026, held June 15-16 in Mexico City.

Bitso Business, the company's B2B arm, shared during the event that Mexico's Interbank Electronic Payment System (SPEI) processed more than 7 billion transfers during 2025, equivalent to more than 347 billion Mexican pesos (US$19.8 billion), a figure that reflects the rapid adoption of digital tools by Mexican consumers and businesses.

Stablecoins are no longer a niche market.

For Bitso, the growth of stablecoins is changing the way money circulates between countries and businesses. These digital currencies, pegged to stable assets like the dollar, are becoming a technological layer that allows for faster, more transparent, and lower-cost international transfers.

One of the key messages was that the discussion no longer revolves around blockchain technology itself, but rather how to integrate it with traditional financial infrastructure to make money movement more efficient.

“Stablecoins are increasingly becoming the bridge between the traditional financial sector and blockchain technology,” said Imran Ahmad, COO of Bitso and CEO of Bitso Business, presenting the company’s vision for the future of digital payments.

Ahmad emphasized that Latin America is in a prime position to adopt these tools thanks to the growth of instant payment systems in markets like Brazil, Mexico, and other countries in the region. According to Ahmad, the combination of local payment infrastructure and stablecoin-based technology will reduce friction in cross-border transactions.

As part of its strategy, Bitso Business announced the launch of its services for businesses in Colombia. This decision is part of a broader strategy to expand its payment network and strengthen financial corridors in Latin America.

The company believes that integrating local payment systems with stablecoin-based solutions can facilitate everything from remittances and payments to suppliers to payroll systems for remote workers.

Ahmad explained that the goal is to offer access to multiple markets through a single technological integration, a proposal that seeks to simplify the expansion of companies operating in different countries in the region.

Stablecoins could reduce the cost and time of sending money between countries, as well as expand access to financial services.

International money transfers could be carried out in a matter of seconds and at significantly lower costs through the use of blockchain technology and stablecoins, an alternative that could benefit millions of Mexican families who receive remittances, stated Silvina Moschini, CEO of the Unicoin Foundation, in an interview with El Cronista.

During the Stablecoin Conference 2026, the executive explained that stablecoins, cryptocurrencies whose value is pegged to traditional currencies like the dollar, have the potential to transform cross-border payments by reducing the involvement of financial intermediaries and streamlining the transfer of funds between countries.

The entrepreneur pointed out that traditional financial systems often absorb a portion of the funds sent by migrants through fees and other charges, which reduces the amount that beneficiaries ultimately receive.

Crypto Ecosystem: The End of Cash? A Law to Create a ‘Digital Peso’ in Mexico is Being Pushed for (opens in a new tab).

“Often, when someone sends money to a family member, a portion of those funds is lost to fees. With blockchain, these transfers can be made for practically pennies and instantly,” she commented.

The businesswoman maintained that blockchain technology can contribute to expanding financial inclusion, especially among people with limited access to traditional banking services or who frequently conduct international transactions.

Regulation would boost trust.

The CEO of the Unicoin Foundation acknowledged that the development of cryptocurrencies was marked for years by fraud, failed projects, and company bankruptcies that affected investor confidence.

However, she believes the industry has undergone a process of refinement that has allowed projects with more robust and transparent business models to remain.

In this context, she affirmed that regulation will be a key element in accelerating the adoption of digital assets and providing greater certainty for users and businesses.

He highlighted the regulatory advancements in the United States through the GENIUS Act, which focuses on establishing guidelines for the issuance and operation of stablecoins, and noted that Mexico could benefit from regulatory frameworks that promote innovation without neglecting consumer protection.

“Clear rules generate trust and allow more people to participate in these ecosystems,” he said.

Financial education remains a challenge.

Moschini added that, in addition to regulation, it will be necessary to strengthen financial education so that more people understand the characteristics, risks, and opportunities of the various digital instruments.

He explained that many users still associate cryptocurrencies with episodes of high volatility or fraud, so he considered it essential that investors understand the differences between the various types of digital assets before making decisions.

He also recommended building diversified portfolios that combine different savings and investment alternatives according to each person's risk profile and financial goals.

Regarding the future of stablecoins, she estimated that their adoption will continue to grow as more businesses accept them as a means of payment and platforms are developed that facilitate their everyday use.

“The new generation already operates from their mobile phones, and stablecoins fit naturally into that dynamic,” she concluded.

Payment orchestration has evolved from a niche solution to an essential infrastructure, enabling merchants to manage multiple PSPs, acquirers, and alternative payment methods to optimize approval rates and reduce costs. Through intelligent routing, this operating model automates real-time decision-making, overcoming the complexity of global e-commerce and the proliferation of digital payment methods.

Orchestration is solidifying its position as the foundational layer necessary to scale complex financial operations, including cross-border payments and open banking environments. To delve deeper into the technical implementation of this model and analyze its impact, we will explore how dynamic routing works and compare different platforms.

Over the last few years, "payment orchestration" has become one of the most discussed concepts in the payments industry.

But payment orchestration is not a new idea. In fact, its origins go back more than a decade. When e-commerce began to scale globally, merchants started facing a new challenge:

What happens when a single payment provider is no longer enough?

At the time, most companies operated with:

• One gateway

• One acquirer

• One processor

The model was simple. But as digital payments evolved, so did complexity.

New payment methods emerged.

New regulations appeared.

New markets required local acquiring.

Alternative payment methods gained adoption.

Instant payment systems changed customer behavior.

Suddenly, companies needed to manage:

✔ Multiple PSPs

✔ Multiple acquirers

✔ Alternative payment methods

✔ Local payment rails

✔ Cross-border transactions

✔ Approval rate optimization

✔ Cost optimization

✔ Fraud and risk controls

This is where payment orchestration became relevant. Not as a product. As an operating model.

Today, orchestration allows companies to intelligently decide:

🔹Which provider should process a transaction

🔹 Which route delivers the highest approval rate

🔹 Which option minimizes costs

🔹Which provider performs best in a specific market

And we are still in the early stages. As Open Banking, Instant Payments, Digital Wallets, Embedded Finance, and Cross-Border Payments continue to expand, payment ecosystems will become even more fragmented.

My view is that orchestration is gradually evolving from a competitive advantage into a foundational layer of modern payment infrastructure.

The question is no longer:

"Can you accept payments?"

The question is:

"Can you optimize, route, monitor, and scale payments across an increasingly complex ecosystem?"

That may become one of the defining challenges of the next decade in payments.

Acquirers in the US typically operate under one of two models:

• As a standalone payments or fintech company

• As a division of a federally regulated bank or financial institution

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀:

𝟭. Global Payments has global scale and strong enterprise and SMB capabilities. Post its Worldpay acquisition, it is now the largest US acquirer with a software-led distribution model.

𝟮. J.P. Morgan leverages the world's largest bank to deliver institutional-grade acquiring, deeply embedded into treasury, cash management, and corporate banking services.

𝟯. Fiserv combines US scale with fintech depth. It drives growth through its Clover SMB ecosystem and Carat enterprise platform, with one of the strongest ISV distribution networks in the market.

𝟰. Stripe redefined acquiring with a developer-first, API-native model. Its unified tech stack powers global platforms and is the fastest-growing top-5 acquirer.

𝟱. Wells Fargo uses its universal banking position to cross-sell merchant services to existing commercial and retail clients, prioritizing depth over broad market expansion.

𝟲. PayPal grew from digital wallet to a key online checkout player. It is now pivoting toward a full commerce platform, adding BNPL, merchant tools, and marketplace acquiring.

𝟳. Elavon, backed by US Bancorp, focuses on mid-market and enterprise merchants, with vertical depth in hospitality, healthcare, and retail through an omnichannel offering.

𝟴. Bank of America operates its merchant services through a long-standing JV with Fiserv, cross-selling payment acceptance to its large base of commercial and treasury clients.

𝟵. Adyen brings its unified commerce platform and proprietary full-stack technology to the US enterprise market, competing on tech quality and seamless global coverage.

𝟭𝟬. Block (Square) built the largest merchant base in the US by democratizing payments for micro-merchants and SMBs.

𝗧𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀:

• Competitive pricing, rising network fees, and compliance costs are squeezing acquirer profitability across all segments.

• The shift to ISV and embedded payments is accelerating - acquirers without a software strategy are losing ground fast.

• Merchants increasingly expect acquiring bundled with lending, payouts, and loyalty - not just payment processing.

• Legacy bank-owned acquirers face real challenges modernizing infrastructure while competing with tech-native players like Stripe and Adyen.

• Durbin Amendment reviews, AML upgrades, and data privacy rules are adding compliance pressure, particularly on onboarding and cross-border flows.

• The Worldpay deal signals further M&A ahead - scale is becoming a prerequisite to compete on pricing, technology, and global reach.
