There’s pretty… and then there’s pretty serious.

To most people, this probably looks like a whole lotta iron and a whole lotta wire.

To us, it looks like a good day at the shop!

No robots. No magic boxes spitting transformers off an assembly line. Just stacks of iron, miles of wire, well-used workbenches, and skilled hands doing things the way we’ve been doing them for generations.

Every winding, every lamination, every lead has a purpose.

Somewhere in all that iron, wire and craftsmanship is the heart and soul of somebody’s amp.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Found this Epiphone Valve Junior head + matching cab on Facebook Marketplace and threw out a $200 offer for the set… and to my surprise, the seller accepted!

I’ve always loved these little amps. The look, the simplicity of the circuit, and most importantly, the tone. One k**b. One input. No nonsense. Just a little tube amp that sounds great.

And here’s where it gets fun…

We actually have another Valve Junior head here at Mercury Magnetics that’s been upgraded with Mercury transformers.

So you know what that means.

Ever wonder how the Tone Biscuits are baked? 🍪🎸

They say nobody wants to see how the sausage is made.

But Tone Biscuits? That’s another story.

Here’s a peek behind the curtain at one of the less glamorous, but very important stages of building a Mercury Magnetics transformer.

Fresh from the varnish process, they’re hung up to drip, dry and cure before moving on to final assembly, testing and eventually being served up hot and fresh for your amp.

It’s messy. It’s sticky. It’s old-school.

And we wouldn’t have it any other way.

The boys in the shop call ’em Tone Biscuits.

They must be pretty tasty, because our friend and legendary amp designer Paul Rivera keeps coming back for more.

Paul has been chasing, shaping, and redefining great guitar tone since the late ’60s, from his early custom amp work for top session players, through the celebrated Rivera era at Fender, and ultimately to building some seriously formidable amps under his own name.

We’re proud that when Rivera Amplification needs iron, Mercury Magnetics is part of the recipe.

Another fresh batch of handcrafted Mercury Magnetics transformers headed Paul's way.
