What if a star wasn’t powered by fusion—but by a feeding black hole? 🌌🕳️

Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope may have uncovered a bizarre cosmic object known as a “black hole star”—a gigantic cocoon of dense hydrogen surrounding a rapidly growing black hole. As gas falls inward, extreme gravitational forces heat it to unimaginable temperatures, causing the entire structure to shine like a brilliant red star.

Even more fascinating, the thick gas envelope may trap the black hole’s radiation, allowing it to consume matter far faster than normally expected. This could help explain how supermassive black holes appeared so early in the universe, only a few hundred million years after the Big Bang.
