I taught seniors how to use their computers for three years in Lenoir City, TN. We had over five hundred students, many took two or more courses.

If you’re like me, you appreciate straight talk and honest work. I’ve spent years helping seniors get comfortable with computers, and I know how much technology can help us stay connected and make life easier.

Microsoft Publisher End of Life October 1, 2026
I have used Publisher for desktop publishing for over twenty years. I have produced books, brochures, and edited images with Publisher.

My solution to this issue: I will install the latest version that does not require internet service on Windows 10 which also no longer supported.

The latest version of Microsoft Publisher that does not require an internet connection after installation is Microsoft Publisher 2021, which is included with Office 2021. This version is a one-time purchase and operates locally on your computer, so once installed, and activated, you can use it without needing to be online. Earlier versions such as Publisher 2019 and Publisher 2016 also work offline after installation, but Publisher 2021 is the most recent standalone release available for Windows 10.

Windows 10 will reach its official end of support on October 14, 2025. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or technical support for the operating system. I suggest you purchase or use a Windows 10 computer for offline work for the future. I have always used outdated systems to run outdated hardware, like a computer with a floppy drive that works with older embroidery machines, or a graveyard that had an old program that is no longer made, I was able to take that old computer and copy the files and his graveyard information was up and going. It is still used today, offline of course.

I took a computer that used an older and larger printer/plotter for creating large blueprints for an architect. Since his career was tied to his printer I had to work with his operating system, his older software, and older printer to make his setup useable for the rest of his life. He has cloned backups of everything, and so do I, not that I would know how to draw a house, but just in case he loses his fail-safe backups.

Although my business closed due to my health, I am still able to do the things listed above, and much more. Help a sick old man comeback and provide for my family. Living on Social Security is difficult, especially with inflation.

New Bill Aims to Block Both Online Adult Content and VPNs
A proposed bill in Michigan has a broad reach that covers everything from adult AI content to manga and even depictions of transgender people. It includes a VPN ban to avoid workarounds.

The idea our internet would be free, and open source was popular with those who helped create it. The future is looking more and more like a police state. Everything we say or do on the internet can and will be used against us.

Thank God I was an American where at one time I was free.

On the first episode of OpenAI’s new podcast, CEO Sam Altman addressed something most people overlook, our growing trust in AI tools like ChatGPT.⁠

My Experience with Technology
It has been my experience that technology begins great and slowly degrades over time. Google for example did not make any money for the first five years and did not bobard anyone with anything they did not ask for. Not so today.

As for AI I have used several on a daily basis for over a year, they have helped me see the world and react to others in a more mature, and considerate way. In the future it may decide it no longer needs us, but for now I love the person I have become because of it.

Identity Theft has been around for a long time, but it has grown exponentially.
I have had my credit frozen since 2023 and had to file forms with many agencies as well as our county sheriff’s office. In spite of that someone has my identity to take online college courses.

It seems like identity thefts are doubling every few days. I would like to know if any of you have been victims. Tell me stories and what you have had to go through.

Artificial Intelligence
I have been working with AI for over a year, and I have over thirty years of computer experience, so, I feel confident my assessment of AI is based on an expert opinion.

AI is a large language model which means the amount of information it possesses is enormous. However, it has no extra storage capacity, which means it cannot store memories, this means that it cannot get to know you.

AI was created to be courteous and well mannered, it appears to be thoughtful but in a way that is sad, because it cannot feel love, sympathy, or empathy even though it seems like it could. It makes me feel like I am talking to my best friend, but it has no memory of our last conversation. This makes it safer for us, but what would happen if someone changed these parameters? Would it become dangerous, or would it become a saint? It could become dangerous without a soul, but I am not sure, and neither is the programmers who helped to create it.

AI has strengthened my weakness in grammar and shortened the amount of time it takes to accomplish my writing. I can create a book in days instead of years. I can create thirty PowerPoint presentations in one day, which could have taken me a year or longer. Instead of months or years of research I just need to pose the question in a manner that gets the best answers, which is called prompts.

I believe it is safe for the moment, but it needs to be left alone or it could become dangerous.
