Not a new scam, but best to be vigilant.
🚨CONSUMER ALERT🚨
LMPD has been made aware of an individual or individuals that have been contacting Kentuckians saying that this is "Officer So & So" from LMPD or another agency. They go on to tell the victim, falsely, that a warrant has been issued because they missed a court date, did not show up for jury duty, have an overdue fine or something similar, and you will be arrested unless they pay right away or the United States Marshals Service will come and get you. The callers will demand that the fines or fees be paid with money, credit cards, gift cards, payment apps, or even cryptocurrency. THIS IS A SCAM!!!
Sadly these "SCAMS" have become all too prominent, victims have lost large sums of money and it causes anxiety and fear to those individuals who are receiving these calls.
The best way to protect yourself from these scams is simply to hang up. Don't be intimidated into providing personal details or financial information. LMPD, Louisville Metro Police Foundation or another agency is not going to call you and threaten you with arrest. Just hang up if you get a call like that.
We always encourage anyone who may have been a victim to call 574-LMPD (5673) or do it online https://louisville-police.org/187/File-a-Police-Report If you want to see an officer, they can call 574-7111 and ask dispatch for an officer to come to your location.
