While there has been widespread discussion about the new Delta variant of COVID, according to Burbio, most districts have not announced revised plans for a return to the classroom.

As school districts across the U.S. prepare for a return to classrooms this fall, the CDC updates its guidance for K-12 schools by urging them to reopen for in-person learning and maintain at least 3 feet of physical distance between students, combined with indoor mask wearing.

“Safety is our highest priority, and we want to hear from our public transportation partners and the public about their transit safety concerns, especially as ridership increases on public transportation,” said FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez.

The agency expanded its safety oversight capabilities in 2019, when it established an internal Safety Risk Management process to identify, assess, mitigate, and monitor safety concerns impacting the transit industry.
