Thanks Madison Kiwanis for giving me time to share some of what we do here at Rural Solutions.

We learned a lot about computers at the July 21, 2026 Kiwanis meeting. Theresa Witte spoke at today’s meeting. Her husband, John Witte, has been working with computers for over 30 years. Theresa started when they moved the business, Rural Solutions, to Madison about 15 years ago. Alexa Muntean has been an employee for seven years. Rural Solutions sells and repairs computers and printers. They will do home and business visits or they can do remote service. They can also help with cell phone set up.

Theresa gave some helpful information: AI has made hacking easier. If a person has their browser (Chrome, Edge, etc.) save passwords for easier access to sites, it makes hacking easier, too. She suggested using a password manager. Be sure to update your computer and your internet browser. To be sure your browser is up to date click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the browser, go to “About”, click on “Help” and the browser should update or tell you it is up-to-date. Driver updates are also important to keep computers functioning properly. Turn off notifications. Turn off all of the software programs that want to start at Start-Up. To do that, go to Task Manager, then Start Up programs and turn them off.

✅ **BASIC COMPUTER SECURITY CHECKLIST**

You do not have to be a tech expert to be safer online. Start with the basics:

☑️ Use a strong password for your email
☑️ Turn on two-factor authentication when available
☑️ Keep Windows and programs updated
☑️ Use antivirus protection
☑️ Be careful with pop-ups that say your computer is infected
☑️ Do not call phone numbers from scary warning screens
☑️ Think before clicking links in emails or messages
☑️ Back up important files and photos
☑️ Ask for help before giving remote access to your computer
