Friendly Cybersecurity Reminder from your local G33K Doctors 👋
Spent today helping a small business clean up a network issue caused by an infected computer and an external attack on their network. Everything looked like it was running fine… but the router logs told a very different story — repeated attempts to break in from the outside.
The good news: the attack was stopped, and the network was locked down.
The important lesson: just because things seem fine doesn’t mean everything is secure. The internet is very good at sneaking around quietly.
A few easy takeaways to keep in mind:
• If your router has “port forwarding” enabled, that’s basically leaving a side door unlocked.
• Old firmware and updates you’ve been ignoring really do matter.
• “It’s always worked fine” and “it’s secure” are not the same sentence 🙃
If you run a business, work from home, or just want to make sure your personal network is secure, it’s worth giving your network a quick checkup once in a while. A little prevention now beats a big headache later.
Stay safe out there — the internet is a wild and weird place. 🥸
