Just a heads up that Microsoft Windows 7 support will end this coming January 14'th. There is no reason to panic. This does NOT mean your computer will stop working.

What this does mean is that any computer running Windows 7 will die a slow death. What will happen is:

1) Microsoft stops issuing security updates that may leave your computer more vulnerable.

2) Software Companies Stop Supporting Windows 7. Any programs that you currently have loaded such as Web browsers, Financial software, applications, Antivirus etc. will stop being supported and will slowly stop working.

3) New hardware that you purchase such as printers, scanners etc. may not work.

Windows 7 users have three options:

OPTION 1
The first option is to upgrade. Upgrading your old Windows 7 to the new Windows 10 is the easiest option, but not potentially without its downside. Most Windows 10 upgrades go smoothly, but some do not. Some computer systems (especially older computers) do not upgrade correctly and may become unstable or unusable. Also, some older hardware and programs may not be Windows 10 compatible and will stop working after the upgrade.

OPTION 2
Your second option would be to purchase a new or used Windows 10 computer. This is the safest option since you can keep your old computer until you see what does and does not work on the new Windows 10 operating system. You can also upgrade to something much faster and designed specifically for Windows 10.

OPTION 3
Your third option is to do nothing. Windows 7 will continue to work for some time and you can simply wait until the system becomes unusable.

One of my Technicians just showed me this computer that came in for repair. The CPU failed because dust clogged the heat sinks and it overheated. One of the many reasons why an annual Tune-Up is important!
