Today, Star Telephone Company, Inc. is doing business as Star Communications, a recent update in 2002 to keep up with the ever- changing telecommunications industry. Star is not only your local telephone service provider, but also your internet service provider. So, in keeping with our ever-improving servic

e to you - this new name demonstrates our desire to be not only your telephone provider, but also your provider for all of your communications needs. Today, Star meets the communications needs for over 5000 customers within a 700 square mile area that extends over six parishes. Star's facilities serve these customers with five telephone exchanges (Maringouin, Livonia, Rosedale, Innis, & Cheneyville), each equipped with a digital switch with all cable plant buried underground to the customer location. The Maringouin, Livonia, Rosedale, and Cheneyville exchanges' switches are served by fiber optic cable into the switch which provides the high bandwidth required by state of the art telecommunication applications today such as video conferencing, data transmission, and internet. Star provides and maintains services in these exchanges through the work of nearly 20 employees, with many years of telecommunications experience, each dedicated to providing quality services to meet the communications needs of the customers. Star Communications is a strong, stable communications organization with over 50 years experience, committed to providing our customers with state of the art solutions to meet all of their communications needs. 1971 - Cut LD Route from open wire circuits via Plaquemine to buried cable via Hwy 190
1975 - Cutover from operator handled long distance to 1 + Direct Dialing
1989 - LOS
1990 - 1st Gen Digital Switch
1996 - Dial up internet service offered
1997 - 2nd Gen digital switch - SS7 class service
