Not sure what makes your music school stand out? John Kozicki has a simple place to start: think about the two or three families you always have the best conversations with. What do you talk about? What do they love about you?

That's the brand identity your have already built. Frame your marketing around those conversations, and you'll start attracting more of the right clients.

Our retreat theme helped us focus on how we show up for music and dance schools every day. So we paused our retreat on day 2 and invited three incredible school owners and admins into the room to share their experiences with us.

If there's one thing that gives our CEO Sharad Mohan the most energy, it's the chance to be in a room with customers. So he and our founder Sam Lellouche took the mic to introduce the panelists, ask questions, and open the floor to the whole team.

Andrew Baird of The Music Academy Of Austin- Mueller, Eddy Garza of Musical Living Academy, and Wade Josey of Greater Austin Music Academy gave us their time, honesty, and stories. They shared what Opus1 means to their businesses, which features they rely on most, what they wish we'd build next, and what life really looks like as a school owner and admin day to day.

One moment that stuck with us: when Eddy and Wade agreed that automated SMS texts have been one of the most useful and time-saving features of the platform. We didn't expect to hear how much this feature means to schools. While juggling students, parents, teachers, and a hundred other things at once, knowing that communication is handled automatically was a huge win. This is the kind of insight you only get when you stop talking and start listening.

To Andrew, Eddy, and Wade - thank you. You didn't have to show up for us, and you did anyway. It was one of the best sessions of the entire retreat!

We're heading back to our desks excited to get to work 💜

Recital season is one of the most rewarding times of the year for performing arts schools. It's also one of the most stressful. We're here to help with both.

Join us May 26th for a live webinar "Before the Curtain Call: Recital Season Prep for Music and Dance Schools."

David Martin sits down with Benjie Kushins, Studio Director and Co-Owner of Art & Soul School of Creative and Performing Arts, to walk through the planning timelines, communication strategies, and systems that make recital season run smoothly (and actually enjoyable).

Whether you're planning your first recital or your fiftieth, you'll walk away with a clear playbook you can put to work immediately.

Our retreat theme was . And for us, that means one thing above all else: giving our best every day to serve the music and dance school owners, teachers, and students who trust us.

Part of that commitment means making sure our team has the best tools available. So in Austin, our wonderful engineering team ran our first ever AI Fluency Lab.

We know AI can be a loaded word in the creative world. And honestly? We get it. We're musicians, dancers, and artists too.

Our take: AI is a tool for thinking, ideating, and automating repetitive work, so people can focus on what only humans can do. It is never a replacement for creativity, relationships, or the magic that happens between a teacher and a student.

With that as our north star, we split into teams and got hands-on, building real automations to solve challenges across the business. A few hours later, each team demo'd what they built and got live feedback from the room.

We came up with some seriously cool tools that we can start using to better serve you!

More from Austin coming soon. 👀

John Kozicki calls it "the rock school secret," but it applies to every music school, not just rock schools.

Students who participate in band programs have significantly higher retention than those in private lessons alone. Why? Because they're getting something deeper than technique. They're getting community, purpose, and a reason to keep showing up.

The key is asking the right questions from day one: What do you like about music? What do you want to be able to do? What are your goals for your child's music education?

When you know the why, you can teach to it.

We've always said we build software for people who love music and dance. The truth is, we're those people.

Our company retreat last week in Austin reminded us of that in the best way possible. For a remote team, getting everyone in the same city, the same room, the same h***y tonk bar... there's nothing quite like it.

We sang karaoke. We danced. We picked up guitars and joined in impromptu jam sessions on the boat.

This team is the reason we care so deeply about what we build. Moments like these remind us exactly who we're building it for.

Oh, and we did some work too... More on that to come 😉

John Kozicki got his first guitar on a Friday. By Monday, he was already forming his first band (even though he couldn't play a note yet).

Looking back, he wasn't just learning an instrument. He was building community. "The guitar was the conduit for everything else."

It's a reminder that students don't just come to music to learn a skill. They come for something deeper, and the schools that tap into that are the ones that grow.
