Hello All, Here is some very important information to keep mindful about security when using your computer.
Tech support scams use scare tactics to make you believe something is wrong with your computer. In some cases, you may get a phone call from someone claiming to be from a tech company (such as Microsoft or Apple) or your company’s IT support claiming your system has been affected in some way. In others, you’ll get a pop-up on your computer, informing you of a problem with your system and directing you to call the provided number for assistance.
Once you’re on the phone, you’ll be connected to someone who claims to be a technician and says you need to give them remote access to your system so they can fix your issues for a fee. Don’t fall for it! Installing any software they offer could result in malicious software (malware) infecting your system. Providing your credit card or bank account information could result in fraudulent charges.
Here’s how you can protect yourself:
• Remember that tech companies like Microsoft and Apple will not make unsolicited phone calls or send unsolicited emails to provide technical support.
• If you receive an unexpected phone call claiming to be from tech support, or a pop-up directing you to call a number for support, and you not sure what do to. Hang up, or you can call our office and we can assist you. Please be careful.
• Be wary of installing software that will provide remote access to your system.
• Be wary of installing software that claims to be antivirus or antimalware without consulting your trusted computer person. (like me)
If you need technical assistance, You can always call, email, text our office and either myself or my staff will return your call.
Thanks and have a great day.
