In our new world of AI, every business should be preparing itself for the possibility of a data breach.

We all hope it never happens to our organization, but we should have some idea of what to do if it does. That is where a Cyber Incident Response Plan (CIRP) comes in.

Human nature causes us to react unpredictably under stress. A well-structured CIRP helps a business respond more calmly and appropriately when something goes wrong. It helps reduce confusion, improve communication, and limit unnecessary disruption.

A solid plan should address questions such as:

• How are threats being monitored and escalated?
• Who has physical access to your building or office locations?
• What happens if a laptop, tablet, or smartphone is lost or stolen?
• Are compliance requirements being met?
• What should your organization do if it becomes aware that systems or data may have been breached?

For some industries, such as healthcare and financial services, this is essential. But really, every organization should have some framework in place for how to respond.

Netvolutions can help your business put together a practical Cyber Incident Response Plan tailored to your risks and operations.

AI has quickly moved from a novelty to a tool most businesses have adopted at some level in their daily operations. And why not? If I can reduce man-hours, I can reduce expenses, businesses can become more profitable, and that is good for the local economy.

Today, teams are using it to summarize information, draft content, analyze data, and improve efficiency in ways even the AI developers may not have fully anticipated.

There is a legitimate concern, and it is not AI itself. It is the possibility of sensitive business data being fed into a data-consuming black hole unintentionally.

In the tech world, we call this a matter of data governance. When team members, looking to be more efficient with their time, paste internal documents, financial information, customer records, HR details, contracts, or operational notes into AI tools without clear guidance, the organization may be creating unnecessary exposure. A business’ intellectual property or personally identifiable information (PII) may be leaked in the name of efficiency. However, the consequence may actually be exposure.

In many businesses, leadership has not yet defined what information is appropriate to share, which tools are approved, or where the line should be drawn.

As I alluded to, that is where the real risk begins.

AI should not be viewed simply as friend or foe. It should be viewed as a business tool that requires policy, awareness, and oversight. The organizations that benefit most from AI will likely be the ones that properly use strategic data governance policies to safeguard both client and internal information.

A few good questions for leadership to consider are:

- What information should never be entered into an AI platform?
- Which AI tools are approved for business use?
- Do employees understand the difference between public, private, and sensitive data?
- Are we moving faster in AI adoption than we are in data governance?

The carpenter’s rule applies well here: measure twice, cut once. Or, as mom would say, look before you leap.

If you are expanding your use of AI and have not spoken with a trusted technology partner, I would encourage you to pause, assess, and make sure the convenience of AI is not quietly outpacing the controls needed to protect the organization.

Cybersecurity used to be about building a stronger fence. Install a capable firewall. Keep the bad guys out.

That model is long outdated!

Modern businesses don’t operate behind a single perimeter anymore. You’re in the cloud. On mobile. Connected to vendors. Running multiple SaaS platforms.
Security today functions more like an onion.

Layered protection around your mission-critical assets. You’re your financial systems, customer data, contracts, and operational software.

Do you have these cybersecurity layers in place on your computing platforms?
- Data security.
- Application discipline.
- Endpoint controls.
- Network segmentation.
- Perimeter defense.
- Human awareness.

Stronger protections come from layering. When one control fails, another protects your organization.

For CEOs, the question isn’t “Are we secure?” It’s: “If something breaks tomorrow, does the business keep running?”

Is your security aligned with how your business actually operates?

For years, organizations were told the cloud was “more secure by default.”

However, recent high-profile breaches tell a more nuanced story.

In several 2025 incidents, attackers didn’t hack complex networks, break encryption or exploit zero-day flaws. They just logged in! They used valid access paths, third-party integrations, and misaligned controls. The data was exactly where it was supposed to be. The security assumptions were not.

Here’s the uncomfortable insight leaders are grappling with. Cloud platforms don’t fail the way servers used to. They fail quietly, through trust chains.

What shows up repeatedly:
- Compromised credentials used legitimately
- OAuth tokens granting broader access than expected
- Third-party tools becoming unintended back doors
- Security teams discovering exposure after data access, not before!

The cloud didn’t create this risk; it simply amplified it!

When data lives in shared platforms, security is no longer just about infrastructure. It’s about identity, visibility, and governance discipline across every integration and workflow.

The takeaway here is not to throw out using the cloud altogether. It is to stop and consider. If your data strategy moved faster than your access strategy, you may already be exposed without realizing it.

The question to ask yourself is this: What systems, companies, consultants or individuals have access to my most critical cloud data right now, and why?

That answer matters more than where the data lives!

𝗜𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗿𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝘆𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻?

Most organizations still think of the browser as a “user tool.”Attackers see it as an attack surface.

Modern work now happens inside browsers: email, SaaS apps, cloud consoles, internal tools. That shift has quietly moved risk away from traditional endpoints and into the browser session itself.

Here’s the key insight leaders are starting to miss. Security controls built for devices and networks are increasingly blind to what happens inside the browser.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗴𝗮𝗽 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝘂𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗲𝘄 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀:

Stolen credentials used entirely within web apps
Malicious extensions behaving like trusted tools
Automated attacks that move faster than human review cycles
Security teams drowning in alerts that don’t translate into action

What’s changing is not just the technology, it’s the operating model. Forward-looking organizations are focusing less on “more tools” and more on:

Visibility into real user behavior
Automation that reduces decision latency
Security controls aligned to how people actually work today

This isn’t about fear or hype. It’s about acknowledging that yesterday’s assumptions no longer match today’s workflows.

If the browser is now the workplace, the question becomes simple:

Are your controls designed for where work actually happens, or where it used to happen?

As the Chair of the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce, I personally invite you to this year’s State of the City Address for the City of Menifee-City Hall. The event will be held at Mount San Jacinto College’s Menifee campus and is free and open to the public. It begins at 6:30 PM at HCN Bank Stadium, marking the second year in a row at this location.

I look forward to the privilege and honor of addressing Menifee’s business community and its wonderful residents. I am deeply appreciative of the support from our amazing Board of Directors as we continue pressing toward our goal of making Menifee a top destination for both new and existing businesses.

As a U.S. Navy veteran, this year’s theme, “Hometown of Heroes,” holds special meaning for me. I am keenly aware of the sacrifice and commitment required to serve in our nation’s armed forces. I extend my heartfelt thanks to fellow veterans and active-duty personnel for their service. Additionally, I want to recognize the heroic efforts of the firefighters battling the wildfires in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. I am equally grateful for the outstanding work of our peace officers, whose efforts keep us safe. The Menifee Police Department’s innovative approach to law enforcement is both commendable and trend-setting.

As an added bonus, our State of the City Address will be preceded by the “Taste of Menifee” VIP event. This ticketed event will showcase some of Menifee’s finest restaurants and eateries. Tickets are available for purchase on the Chamber’s website.

I am truly looking forward to meeting you! Please find me before or after the address so we can get acquainted. I’d love to hear about your business and explore how we can help your business establish, grow, and thrive in the amazing City of Menifee!

Time can pass so quickly. It's already been a week since we were in Tennessee.

But I really had a great time playing a few of the many awesome guitars at the Gibson Garage in Nashville Tennessee. I really enjoyed the new Gibson Victory with its modest price tag of $8700. Hey, it's only money.

Thanks Marla Simms for hanging with me and for the cool shirt!

It's a great day for a San Francisco Giants game as we play the San Diego Padres out here at Petco Park Stadium Nice being up 6 to 0 even if we're 15.5 games back.

Thanks to my man Steven Carter for the invite! Proof we can all get along regardless of our affiliations.

It was an honor to host the ribbon cutting ceremony for my personal friend Eric Buss along with the Menifee Valley Chamber of Commerce. Eric owns Davids Natural Toothpaste. He's been in business for 9 years and moved his growing business to Menifee about a year and a half ago.

After hearing about the distinct differences between his product and the numerous other products on the market, I instantly became a believer - and a customer.
