We’re excited to announce the launch of new Meta Software Engineer Career Certificates in partnership with Coursera! These courses will provide new pathways to high-growth, high-paid tech careers.

Starting in June, Meta will offer five entry-level courses teaching front-end and back-end development, iOS, Android, and database engineering. These certification courses will help train the next generation of talent and can even be applied directly toward college credit in some cases. Meta is also offering course scholarships for those with financial need. (see the program here: https://bit.ly/3srdQjb)

Small Business Week is a great time to show your support for small businesses in your community.

Meta recently released the latest Global State of Small Business Report which revealed that 20% of small businesses remain closed globally, which is slightly higher from the last survey conducted in July.

This week, Meta is announcing new tools for small businesses advertisers, and new training events to help SMBs grow. We’re also announcing Meta Prosper, a new program to support Asian & Pacific Islander-owned small businesses. Prosper will focus on providing content, training resources and events in six different languages (Chinese, Hindi, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Korean, and Japanese). Exciting to see EE’s own Laura Kusumoto, XR Program Manager, highlighting the success of our VR wellbeing pilot program in Forbes!

As Laura explains, the program tested the use of stress management apps on the Quest 2 to help employees improve their mindfulness and focus. The results? After 30 days, participants reported an average of 35% improvement in their perceived stress levels!

Laura and her team are now working to expand the pilot program and test more uses of XR to make a positive impact on our wellbeing and mental health. We can’t wait to see the results! 🎉

Highlighting speakers from day two of the IVRHA conference, many companies are making large strides in the cross-section of healthcare and wellbeing and immersive technology. Wellbeing and prioritizing all aspects of an employee is an important conversation continuing to gain traction.

What does Black History Month mean to EE employees?

As we reflect on and learn about Black History and February comes to a close, we sat down with Joyce Burdier, a Program Manager at EE, to talk about what this time means to her each year and her personal experience as an Afro-Latina woman in tech.

“As an Afro-Latina, Black History Month for me is about going back and learning about my ancestry. I’m Puerto Rican but my ancestry goes back to my African roots, so it gives me the opportunity to learn about the ways that it all ties together. There’s so much we have in common — music, food, culture. It’s great to see how it intersects.

“I would love for everyone to really dive into understanding the importance of celebrating Black History. Take a moment, even if it’s 15-20 minutes, to read about why it’s important. And don’t be afraid to ask questions because that’s how you get to learn and understand any cultural moments. Find ways to become an ally, help others understand the importance, and remember that it’s not just one month, it’s year-round.”
