Today's HERstory Lesson: Jackie Joyner-Kersee!! Happy birthday to this amazing woman who broke down so many barriers for female athletes all over the world.

One of our favorite quotes by her is "We live in a world where sports have the potential to bridge the gap between racism, sexism and discrimination. The 2012 Olympic Games was a great start but hopefully what these games taught us is that if women are given an opportunity on an equal playing field the possibilities for women are endless."

We totally LOVE Ify!! And can't wait to open back up and re-start our sewing classes. We can come teach sewing to groups now, though, so let us know if you are interested in a sewing party!

Egypt “Ify” Ufele, a fifth-grade student in Queens, New York, has been crafting outfits for her dolls since age 5. But her foray into fashion — designing clothes that aren’t pint-sized — really kicked off last year, when Ufele launched a clothing label called ChubiiLine. The catalyst for

Today's HERstory Lessons: A Colorful Collection of Fabulous Females:

Amy is sooo much more than just the Joy Luck Club. And that is saying a lot. :)

Today's HERstory Lesson: Amy Tan!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMY!!

Most of you may know Amy as an American writer whose works explore mother-daughter relationships and the Chinese-American experience. Her best-known work is The Joy Luck Club, which has been translated into 35 languages.

We encourage you to check out her website: https://www.amytan.net/ to fully embrace how endearing she is.

Her welcome; "This website is cluttered and clunky. A web designer told me that--so much stuff on the landing page that you didn't know where to go next. That's exactly how I want it to feel: messy, chatty, busy, confusing, imperfect--just like the official Amy Tan.

To get the right tone, I made this website on my own, start to finish. It has my balance of seriousness and silliness, shades of green, and some useful information, like my bio, the only one that is 100% correct. "

We kind of heart us some Amy Tan. :)

Today's HERstory Lesson- Molly Dewson!! She was AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING!

Today's HERstory Lesson: Molly Dewson! Today is her birthday!

How awesome was Molly??? Well...

She was a feminist and political activist. Head of the Women's Division of the Democratic National Committee in 1932 after an active role in the New York Consumer's League. In this new role, she worked with FDR to bring the women's vote into action for his first term.

After graduating, Dewson began working as a secretary of the Domestic Reform Committee of the Women's Educational and Industrial Union, a social and reform club in Boston. There she conducted statistical studies of home life that led to several articles.

In 1913 she and her lifelong partner, Mary G. (Polly) Porter, moved to a dairy farm in Worcester, Massachusetts. By 1915, however, Dewson had recharged her batteries; she entered the Massachusetts suffrage movement. During World War I, both she and Porter went with the American Red Cross to France to aid war refugees. Dewson was chief of the Mediterranean Zone by war's end.

This is just a little bit of her awesome, we encourage you to look up Molly and read more about her!

Today's HERstory Lesson: Mary Breckinridge! Today is her birthday!

Mary was the driving force behind rural health-care in America as well as the development of nurse midwives. Born into a politically prominent family, Mary bucked against much of what her family believed. She blazed her own path lead by her life experience. Mary birthed three children that did not survive childhood. This was the driving force for her to become a nurse. Children and the poor became those she wanted to work with most. In addition to all she did for nursing, she did another bold move at that time for women- in 1920 she divorced her husband after he was unfaithful to her.

We encourage you to learn more about Mary and look forward to having more info available about her in the future! :)
