The credits say one designer. The owner’s history says otherwise.
In 2021, Yusaku Maezawa flew to the International Space Station and paid for a second seat for a producer, whose only job was to film the experience so people back on Earth could see what it actually looked like up there.
That tells you everything about how he commissions things.
Lürssen delivered his yacht, Nausicaä, in May 2026. 114 metres. Marc Newson credited for the exterior and interior. One designer, one vision, nothing left unresolved. Except the aft deck pool is shaped like two interlocking ovals that Hermès has used as a signature motif since 1938, when Robert Dumas drew it from the anchor chains he studied along the Normandy coast.
His jet has an Hermès interior. His Rolls-Royce Phantom was built in direct collaboration with Hermès. These are objects he lives inside, travels in, and has documented publicly without hesitation.
Lürssen credits Newson. Hermès has said nothing. The deck is the only one offering an opinion, and it is doing so very quietly.
