Every SLP knows it: strong language skills are at the heart of literacy. 🗣️

Decades of research confirm that vocabulary, syntax, discourse, and listening comprehension are a critical piece of the foundation of reading comprehension – and that when we strengthen students’ oral language, stronger literacy outcomes follow.

In this recent article, our VP of Pedagogy & District Relations Becca Bishop explores what the evidence really says about oral language and reading comprehension – and how this research reinforces the vital role SLPs play in supporting literacy within MTSS.

Being a Lead SLP means more than managing caseloads. It means bridging two worlds: the therapy room and the district office. 🏫💬

Too often, SLPs and administrators speak different “languages.” That gap can create silos, stress, and missed opportunities for students.

We’ve put together a practical guide to help Lead SLPs:
✅ Advocate for manageable caseloads and effective therapy delivery
✅ Build stronger relationships with special ed administrators
✅ Show how speech-language services connect directly to district goals

✨ Check it out here: https://ampliolearning.com/blog/lead-slp-special-ed-admin-partnerships

If you’re a Lead SLP (or stepping into the role for the first time), this one’s for you.

Discover how lead SLPs can build strong partnerships with special education administrators to align caseloads, MTSS, and district goals.

Most of us know the pattern too well.

A student struggles with language → there’s no Tier 2 option → the only path forward is referral.

By the time services begin, we’re catching up instead of getting ahead.

Imagine if it looked different:
🗂️ You had structured Tier 2 tracks for vocabulary, phonological awareness, narrative skills, and articulation – ready to assign.
📊 Progress data was captured automatically and ready for MTSS meetings.
👩‍🏫 Classroom teachers and interventionists could help carry Tier 2, so SLP time was protected for students who truly need IEP-level support.

That’s why we built the new Tiered Intervention Hub inside Amplio Speech & Language.

It’s about more than saving prep time (though it does that too). It’s about giving SLPs a way to meet students’ needs earlier – so fewer kids fall through the cracks and more make progress before referral is ever needed.

🗣️ Off Mute is back – now with a school-year rhythm.

If you're a Lead SLP, department head, or supervising SLP, you already know:

Your caseload isn’t the only thing that needs managing.

Your *staffing* model probably does, too.

We’re kicking off our newly reinvigorated Off Mute roundtable series with a session on layered staffing models – how districts are blending SLPs, SLPAs, CFYs, contracted support, and creative scheduling to meet growing needs with finite resources.

🎉 A packed house in Putnam City Schools!

Last week, two members from our team — Perry Fowler and Sydney Kelly — led a full-day training with 34 of the district’s SLPs. The energy in the room was incredible.

Putnam City is taking a district-wide approach to language support, and Amplio is proud to be part of the plan. Highlights from the day:
✔️ SLPs described the platform as intuitive and easy to navigate
✔️ First-year SLPs (CFs) shared their excitement and relief at having a system that supports them right from the start
✔️ Teams left energized about a shared workflow that will streamline documentation, progress monitoring, and intervention delivery

We couldn’t ask for a better way to kick off the school year — and we’re honored to walk alongside Putnam City’s talented SLPs as they put this new approach into action.

🚀 Big day in Quitman Independent School District!

Our District Relations Executive, Perry Fowler, spent yesterday with the Quitman speech team for a full-day training workshop as they officially onboard Amplio Speech & Language.

Quitman has long trusted Amplio Reading Intervention to support their students with dyslexia. Now, they’re extending that same confidence to their SLPs and SLPAs – giving them a shared platform to:
✔️ Collaborate seamlessly across students served by both roles
✔️ Streamline documentation and progress monitoring
✔️ Deliver consistent, evidence-based interventions districtwide

It’s a full-circle move: supporting language and literacy under one roof, with tools designed for the realities of special education and tiered interventions.

👏 Congratulations to Quitman ISD on expanding your Amplio partnership – we’re honored to walk alongside your educators in this next chapter!

When does a speech referral really belong on an SLP’s desk? 🧩

That’s the big question we tackled in our most recent Off Mute roundtable. SLPs and district leaders shared how they’re clarifying Tier 1 vs. Tier 2, cutting down on unnecessary evals, and building systems that actually make life easier.

👂 Sound familiar?
• You're getting referrals before Tier 1 strategies are even tried
• You're asked to test when what the student really needs is classroom support
• You’re juggling reactive requests instead of collaborating with your team

If you’ve ever felt like the “catch-all” for unclear MTSS processes, you’re not alone—and there are better ways forward.

📣 Happening tomorrow at 11 AM CT

Oklahoma districts are facing major changes in how speech referrals are handled — and the questions we’re hearing from SLPs and special ed leaders across the state are all the same:

“How are other districts dealing with this?”
“What does compliance actually look like now?”
“How do we respond without overloading our SLPs?”

Let’s talk about it — together.
