For 25 years, MITCON has quietly served as a powerful backbone for Midland’s nonprofit community—providing the technical expertise and IT support that help mission-driven organizations stay focused on what they do best: serving others.
What began as an independent nonprofit IT provider became part of the Midland Business Alliance (MBA) family in July 2015, when Midland Tomorrow absorbed MITCON as a subsidiary. That transition not only strengthened MITCON’s connection to the broader business ecosystem but also provided long-term stability.
Executive Director Tracy Quinlan has had a front-row seat through much of that evolution. She started with Midland Tomorrow in 2015, assisting with MITCON’s operations, before joining MITCON full-time in 2019. Today, she leads a small but dedicated team committed to keeping the region’s nonprofits running smoothly behind the scenes.
“MITCON’s mission is to focus on cost savings in IT for local nonprofits,” Quinlan explained. “Anytime we can relieve their budgets for IT, it frees up more of their funds for programming. So, while we’re serving nonprofits, we’re also helping the entire community by extension.”
MITCON’s services are far-reaching. They include help desk support, infrastructure management, data storage, network setup, Wi-Fi configuration, print servers. It’s a full suite of tech solutions tailored for nonprofit needs.
But what makes MITCON truly unique is the heart behind the work.
“Our staff could work anywhere—they’re incredibly skilled—but they believe in our mission,” Quinlan said. “They choose to stay here because they care about making a difference.”
That mission-driven spirit was put to the test during a ransomware-style incident several years ago, when a malicious download disrupted operations and impacted MITCON’s clients.
“It was a huge event,” Quinlan recalled. “But our clients were incredibly understanding and supportive throughout. That trust made all the difference during our recovery process. They knew we were going to fix it—and that we had their back.”
MITCON is also adapting as the tech landscape evolves. A few years ago, the team added scanning services to help clients digitize paper records. And now, they’re developing two new offerings—affordable website design and revamp services—thanks to a collaboration with a local contractor and end-user training programs.
“One area a lot of our clients struggle with is affordable websites,” Quinlan said. “We want to help close that gap, so they can have a better online presence without straining their budgets.”
As for what’s next?
“Technology changes so quickly, it’s hard to predict,” she said with a laugh. “But we’re always listening to what our clients need, and we’ll keep building from there.”
MITCON might operate behind the scenes—but its work is essential to the nonprofits that make our region stronger, more compassionate, and more connected.
