Compucom Computers

Compucom Computers Since 1991, Compucom Computers has been the place to get your computer repaired, upgraded, or built! Viruses or spyware got you down? We clean those out!
(1)

Established in 1991, Compucom Computers has been a source of knowledge and computer equipment for the Tri-City area. We sell custom built desktops, laptops, and service that equipment as well. Our reasonable labor rates make most computer repairs worthwhile to do - except when we are talking about an obsolete computer, i.e., Windows 95 with a 486 processor :-)

We also service iPad, iPhone, and iP

od units. We use only high quality components, glass, and our expertise will make your device as good as new again! Stop by or give us a call today - you'll be glad you did!

Hey everyone, long time no post. We have seen a HUGE uptick in scams lately that follow the formula listed in this post from the FBI's IC3.gov website. Please be careful out there! If you come across anything like these scams (Warning, you have a virus, call this number now), do the thing it says not to do - turn off your PC and don't call the number! If you need help, give us a call! Link to the ic3.gov post below:

The FBI is warning the public of a recent nationwide uptick in technical support scams targeting older adults, where scammers instruct victims to send cash, wrapped in a magazine(s), via shipping companies.

It's been a long time since we've posted any announcements for the shop. Today, there are 3 to go over:

1 - It is with a sadness that we report that Zac will be leaving the shop on 1/14/22. We thank him for his 7 years of work and support, and wish him all the best on his next adventure!

2 - With his departure we are now shorthanded. As a result, we need to run on some temporary lobby hours. The lobby will be open from 1PM to 6PM Monday through Friday (and possibly earlier depending on our service schedule). Mornings will be available for appointments for on-site work, or in store if you need to drop something off. We will resume regular hours once we have a new face for you!

3 - Which leads to this one: WE'RE HIRING! If you have a passion for computers and like to work with people, we've got a clerk/level 1 tech position open. We are happy to train you, so major tech experience is not necessary. We have a fairly flexible schedule for this part time position. Send CV/resume to [email protected] and we will contact you if we think you are a good candidate. We expect to start interviews on/around 1/31/22.

Thank you all for your support of Compucom and working with us all these years! We hope that 2022 for you is a good year, and we look forward to helping with all of your computer problems!

We're back in store by popular demand!

We are still asking that you call prior to coming to our store so that we can schedule an appointment. We are also doing curbside drop off of computers. When you arrive at the store please call us to start the necessary paperwork - we will then come out to the car to collect the computer for service. You may also ring our doorbell for entry to the store - 1 person at a time please. Let's keep staying safe!

Hi everyone! With the extended stay home order and the continuing concerns over Covid-19, we are again changing our business hours. For the foreseeable future, we are now only working by appointment only. This means that you will need to call and book an appointment time to pickup or drop off service work. We understand this is an inconvenience for everyone, but it is also the safest way for us to proceed at this time. Stay tuned here for further announcements! Stay safe everyone!

To our customers and friends:

Like you, we have been paying close attention to the COVID-19 situation. Special attention has been paid so far to ensuring that our technicians have not been showing symptoms of the Corona virus. While we have been cleaning everything you could touch in store, sanitizing computers we service, and washing our hands, we have decided to take another step.

While computer and IT services have been deemed an essential (so we can remain open), we also want to comply with the spirit of the "Stay Home" order. As such, we are closing our lobby to general walk-ins at this time. We are still opening the door for appointments and deliveries. With that said, if you are planning on dropping off/picking up a computer for service, please call us first.

If you prefer to not venture out, we are also offering remote diagnostics and repair. Again, please call us to make arrangements and for cost on remote services. You will need to have the basics for this to work however, like working Internet and a booting computer.

We are also limiting our service calls to priority issues only. We will assess each individual situation accordingly and schedule as allowed. We understand that working from home is the route many of you will take, and we will try to support that as much as reasonably possible.

As always - please be safe. Follow the guidelines presented to us already; wash your hands, don't touch your face, if you feel sick stay home. We will be doing the same! And if your computer has problems, give us a call, we'll be here to help!

We've recently been made aware of a new scam group that is blowing up people's phones with repeated phone calls. The caller claims to be Apple support, but is in reality a scammer. Do not allow anybody that contacts you into your computer. While these calls are persistent and repetitive, we recommend simply ignoring/blocking them.

If you have been a victim of this type of scam, feel free to contact us at the store for more information!

Bad news / good news!
Bad news - another ransomware "virus" is roaming in the wild. At the moment, it is mostly hitting Russia and Europe, but it will make it's way across the oceans soon. It's called "Bad Rabbit" and is holding files for ransom again.
Good news - Kaspersky and Bitdefender users are already protected against this threat!

This virus started spreading by offering a fake download of Adobe Flash player. Never trust a web site you're visiting to update your system. Always go back through the developer of the program for updates.

We'd like to take this moment to remind you that it is always a great idea to keep your protection up to date. Also, backup, backup, backup! If you would like us to advise you on either antivirus or backup procedures, we would be more happy to help you on this. Give us a call to set up an appointment. Be safe out there online!

For those who are wondering, here is a great summary of the Kaspersky issue you're hearing about in the news. And yes, we still support and promote their products!

Is Russian software company Kaspersky Lab colluding with the FSB? Stealing private information? Rumors abound, without any hard evidence to back them up.
