Please please please - beware any emails from FEDEX / UPS / or USPS. Everyone is expecting deliveries this time of year, and Internet criminals are aware of this and taking advantage of indiscriminate clickers. DO NOT click to open any attachment or follow any link in an email from a shipping company even if it looks legit. Mouse over or click the sender's email address to reveal the true address DOMAIN Will NOT BE FROM THE TRUE COMPANY.

Our managed services customers are protected from these scams but very few antivirus programs will protect you. You must be defensive in your clicking and resist the urge.

Clicking the link or opening the download - an innocent looking *.PDF will unleash hell on every computer on your network. Encrypting all important data and demanding a ransom in the form of a bitcoin payment which may range between $400 - $2000 to get your data back.

Please note an unscheduled Windows 10 OS update from Microsoft is affecting 1000's of our customers system-wide. You may not know you have received this unsolicited update from Microsoft, until you go to restart your system, whereupon it may be down for 1.5 - 24 hours applying this service pack.

We recommend everyone restart their machines at a time where it would be convenient go be without it for an extended amount of time (i.e. bedtime).

We are working directly with Microsoft to prevent future events like this from occurring again.

HP Notebook PC AC Power Cord Safety Recall and Replacement Program

Determine if your power cord is affected
HP is asking that customers take the following action to determine whether this recall program affects your AC power cord by following these steps:
Disconnect the PC notebook or accessory AC adapter AC power cord from the wall outlet or main power supply.
Check the AC adapter end of the AC power cord for the marking “LS-15” molded into the connector. If you do not have “LS-15” on the connector, the power cord is not affected.
Figure : Affected power cord molded with LS-15

Please go to the HP Notebook PC AC Power Cord Replacement Program website to see if the notebook AC power cord is affected.
The notebooks, AC adapters, and AC adapter accessories are not affected. Only the power cords are affected.
Not all of the AC power cords with the “LS-15” mark are affected.
The validation process may show that the power cord is not affected by this recall.
Verified, eligible, power cords will be replaced at no cost to the customer.

Here are some additional steps for proactively protecting your devices against this dangerous malware.
Card created 3 months agoImportance: High
According to recent reports, massive volumes of JavaScript attachments are being spammed out that contain dangerous ransomware. We recommend taking the following additional precautions to protect your install base:

Make sure your mail protection solution is blocking macro-enabled documents and .js scripts
Ensure that you have blocked user access to downloading Tor by blacklisting the following URL: https://www.torproject.org/download/download-easy.html (the Locky virus in particular relies on downloading and installing the Tor browser and some versions may use Tor to contact the command and control servers)
Block any items falling under the category of "proxy avoidance" or "anonymizers." If you use Web Protection, this can be done by going to "Settings > Web Protection > Protection Policy > [select applicable policy] Edit > Web Security > Proxy Avoidance and Anonymizers > Block"
Disable Java in client browsers (for more information, see the following links)
And we suggest that access to the following IPs be completely blocked at the firewall:
5.34.183.195
51.254.19.227
185.14.29.188
31.184.197.119
91.219.29.55

This really underscores complacency in security. Hospitals take years to implement security and best practices, only by the time of deployment, their methods are obsolete. This illustrates perfectly the role of a Managed Services Provider. With our tools we offer up to the second security measures and counter measures. In the unlikely event of a breach like this, we can keep an entire organizations infrastructure co-located in a cloud environment, ready at a moments notice to switch over to a redundant network with zero data loss or down time.

Computer systems at a Hollywood medical centre have been offline for more than a week following a "ransomware" attack.
