Mom's garden is my inspiration this time. If you don't know Genie, you don't know she's famous for her gardening. Her own garden is a work of art and she's always there to help out on other people's gardens. Oh - and she has very strong opinions.

We were sipping coffee in her garden a couple weeks ago when I wondered aloud what I should create for the Hydrangea challenge. She immediately pointed at her amazing pinky winky hydrangea shrub, growing right behind where I was sitting.

While she always offers helpful ideas, I mostly say thanks and then do my own thing. But sometimes, her idea wins! I took some reference pics of her pinky winky that day and the result is my entry "Pretty in Pinky". I even worked in some bee balm, also in her garden that day.

Woohoo! 5th place for The Grande Macabre! (Link below)

That is my 9th top-ten finish since I started doing this three years ago - I am uber-thrilled!

Rendered here in Twilight Blue, it comes in a few other colorways and I developed 4 companion prints as well.

ALSO - I'm taking this moment to announce I've reopened my the shop, this time on my own website (instead of Etsy). In addition to a lot of other designs, The Grande Macabre is now a full line: hoodies, beanies, totes, an apron, even a reversible bucket hat. And of course a full selection of fabrics and wallpaper in my Spoonflower shop!

Thank you to everyone who's followed along through eight finishes before this one, to everyone who voted for my design, and to the fellow designers in this space who keep the bar impossibly high.

I entered my spooky design, "The Grand Macabre." I went full-on goth with this one - gargoyles, moths, owls, and a bat or two, all tucked into pointed arches and aged like they've been guarding an ancient crumbling cathedral.

Voting is open for Spoonflower's Faded Resort challenge. My entry, Cabana Republic, is a block-print pattern featuring stripey vintage beach cabanas with a cotton candy attitude. I was going for the good kind of faded – sun-bleached, salt-aired, and well worn from hundreds of beach parties. This fabric has partied far more than I have.

If you've ever voted in one of these challenges before, you know the drill. If you haven't, it's free, it's fast, and it would genuinely make my day.
