AI may be changing how software gets built, but it hasn't changed one of the hardest parts of software development: understanding what the business actually needs.

There's still an important gap between what's technically possible and what will create meaningful value for the people using the solution.

As AI becomes part of more enterprise applications, the ability to connect business requirements, software architecture, data and AI may become even more important.

We’ve always needed people who could translate business requirements into software. Now we need them to do it with AI.

There's an important distinction emerging in the AI conversation: automating work isn't necessarily the same thing as improving it.

Adding an AI agent to an inefficient process may make individual steps faster, but it doesn't fix the process itself.

As enterprise AI matures, some of the more interesting opportunities will come from stepping back and looking at the entire workflow: what should be automated, where human judgment still matters, how systems need to connect and what work may no longer be necessary at all.

AI agents could make enterprise apps less visible, but the bigger shift is rethinking who — or what — actually does the work.

One of the more interesting questions around AI-assisted development isn't whether AI makes developers faster. It's what happens to the value of experience when it does.

New research from Anthropic analyzing roughly 400,000 Claude Code sessions offers an interesting answer.

Their findings suggest that people are still making most of the planning decisions while Claude handles more of the ex*****on, and that greater domain expertise can actually help users get more out of the tool.

That's an important distinction.

As AI handles more implementation work, experience doesn't necessarily become less valuable. Its value may increasingly shift toward knowing what to build, how to structure it, what questions to ask, and how to evaluate the result.

AI is creating some interesting opportunities around application modernization, but faster code conversion doesn't necessarily make modernization easy.

The difficult part is often understanding what a legacy application actually does, which business rules need to be preserved, where dependencies exist, and what the application needs to become.
