After 22 years of Graphic Arts in Downtown Morganton, 12 of those years with MESH Design Group, I'll be closing the doors on this chapter of my career. As of last week MESH has stopped taking on new work. I'm in the process of finishing up current projects and closing up shop.

Despite having a great year so far I've decided to take an in-house position with a long-standing client, Norell. Norell has continued to grow and innovate year after year since I first started working with them in 2010. I'll be handling graphic design/marketing as well as working with various forms of in-house specialty printing associated with their products.

Being a self-employed graphic artist in a small town has been a wild ride for sure. While not for the squeamish, freelancing has been an incredibly satisfying and creative journey. Thanks to all the clients who kept me busy over the years with 1000s layouts for print and 100s of logos. There's not a lot of new ground for me to break here so it's time to move on.

There's more than I can remember or count but here are a few notable logo selections from the last 12 years.

It'e been a minute! I've done A LOT of print and logo/branding work since COVID shook things up. I'll be posting some of it here in the coming weeks.

Here's a look at a recent project for Hamilton Williams Studio. Working closely with Hamilton we developed this runic-inspired logo suite for his studio. The trademark was developed to function in the form of a stamp marking Hamilton's ceramic work. Alternates were developed for use in different print/web spaces. Horizontal and vertical alternates are pretty typical of my logo design process.

The creative process can vary widely from client to client. I believe this is the way it should be. Trying to quantify each project with a rigid creative system can lead to homogenized output and thus similar results. Keeping things organic and fluid yields more diverse outcomes that better reflect each client's uniqueness. Hamilton is savvy and an absolute joy to work with.

A recent logo design for a local bookkeeping service, Good Books, done in the style of the traditional Mexican folk art practice of Papel Picado. Using bright colors the logo was designed in circular and square formats. Good Books is located in downtown Morganton, NC.

I hope everyone is doing OK and adjusting to the new situation we find ourselves in. MESH is still up and running and so far I've been staying busy with design work. Another highlight of 2019, the rebranding of Carolina Textile District. CTD wanted a new, modern look with an updated trademark, colors and typography. With most logos alternates are developed for use in different spaces. CTD is a facet of the Industrial Commons who's goal is to "....grow interconnected enterprises that solve industrial problems for businesses and workers and manufactures hope for the people of Western North Carolina."

I'll be posting highlights from 2019 over the coming weeks.

The first project I'd like to draw attention to is the Taproot newsletter from Foothills Conservancy. This 36 page newsletter is published yearly by the conservancy and highlights Foothills' events and projects around the region.

MESH handled the design & layout for the book in 2019 and with lots of mapping and copy to handle it made for a fun project. I love handling type, the more the better.

Keep an eye on Foothills Conservancy, they are doing the work to preserve our natural resources for future generations.

I've been meaning to get back to this one. Earlier this year MESH was asked to rework the "Nature's Playground" logo used to promote travel and tourism in Burke County. The logo set includes several variations for use in different spaces. In addition to the re-branding effort we've designed several outdoor advertisements you may have seen along I-40 between Morganton & Hickory. As always our vector editing is unmatched and designed to cut cleanly into vinyl with minimum points in the paths and no messy hidden layers.

Recent logo design for Creek Spirit Farms. Inspired by classic Japanese design this logo was set up with a couple alternates for use in different spaces. As always MESH logos are provided in vector-based file formats with clean path-work and minimal points on the vectors.

New T-Shirt design by MESH for Mountain Burrito's hot sauce El Peligroso. T-Shirts will be available at Mountain Burrito VERY soon. Super stoked on this one. This is the second in the MB hot sauce T Series. This will be printed on high quality shirts without flashing for a softer, vintage look/feel.

El Peiligroso has long been my favorite hot sauce. Put it in your face if you dare.

MESH has no equal in the area when it comes to vector-editing and expert knowledge of specialty printing & color separation. If you think you're better I challenge you to a duel.
