Last week, KeyLogic participated in the ETEBA National Small Business Summit in Denver, Colorado. Budd Shaffer, our SVP of Strategy, had the privilege of serving on a panel discussing opportunities related to the DOE Genesis Mission and the important role small businesses will play in helping unlock new opportunities for innovation, scientific discovery, and value creation.

The discussion reinforced how rapidly AI, advanced computing, energy infrastructure, and national security priorities are converging across the DOE ecosystem. It was encouraging to see the level of engagement and enthusiasm from organizations looking to contribute to this next chapter of American innovation.

Thanks to ETEBA for hosting a great event and to the panelists and attendees for the thoughtful discussion.

KeyLogic and KBC Energy continued their Earth Day tradition with the 4th grade class at Eastwood Elementary in Morgantown, WV on April 22, 2026. The students created Earth Day drawings, and KeyLogic employees voted on the best design, and it becomes this year’s t-shirt. In addition to the t-shirt commemorating the winning drawing, each student and teacher were given a tree seedling to take home and plant. Supporting students as they learn why Earth Day is so important continues to be an incredibly rewarding experience. Congratulations to the winner of the t-shirt design, Keisi Ceron!

The winner of the recent NETL SLAM competition was KeyLogic's Senior Engineer, William Strahl! Mr. Strahl was one of eleven early-career researchers competing at the third annual SLAM event, held January 29th. As NETL's SLAM Champion, Mr. Strahl is anticipated to represent the lab at the National Lab Research SLAM event among all 17 national labs to be held in Washington D.C. on April 15, 2026. Could nuclear power supply nearly half of all U.S. electricity by 2050? A new analysis from KeyLogic analyzes what it might take for the U.S. to achieve the Trump Administration’s goal of up to 400 Gigawatts (GW) of nuclear power capacity.

AI and data centers are set to transform U.S. electricity demand — potentially growing 15x by 2050. To meet that demand with firm, reliable power, the Trump Administration has set a target of 300 GW of new nuclear capacity by 2050. A new analysis from KeyLogic's OnLocation division analyzes what it might take for the U.S. to achieve the Trump Administration’s goals.

Key findings:
• Data center electricity demand could grow 5–10x by 2035 and 15x by 2050
• Tech companies have already committed tens of billions to nuclear (Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Meta)
• ~200 GW of large AP1000 reactors + ~100 GW of SMRs is achievable — with the right incentives and commitments
• Rebuilding the capacity to construct nuclear plants at scale is a national undertaking comparable in scope to building the interstate highway system or the original nuclear fleet
• Nuclear would account for 48% of U.S. generation by 2050

Cumulative Nuclear Capacity Additions Under the Nuclear Scenario
• 43 GW by 2035
• 202 GW by 2040
• 323 GW by 2050

The pathway exists. But For policymakers, investors, and energy planners, the report offers a sober but constructive message: there is a pathway to achieving industry’s needs and the Administration’s goals, but it will take a historic and sustained level of technological, financial and policy commitment.

A surge in electricity demand is reshaping what the grid needs to deliver and how fast it needs to deliver it.
