We understand the frustration — the recent outages and instability are not acceptable, and we know they’ve affected trust.

We are actively working with our upstream provider at an executive level to address the root cause, and at the same time we are investing in redundancy and network upgrades so that a single upstream issue does not impact customers the way it has recently.

Some of these improvements take time to implement correctly, but they are already in progress. We appreciate everyone’s patience while we work through this and strengthen the network for the long term.

All customers should be up & going. Windstream had to replace some equipment once they identified what the exact issue was. The issue being a fiber multiplexer that had a bad channel. Again all affected customers should be up & going, if you are not please contact tech support.

We understand how frustrating an outage can be, our employees and their families experience them right along with you. When an issue is on our end, we take full responsibility, and we apologize for any misinformation that may have been shared while details were still being confirmed. Yesterday was an all-day, all-hands-on-deck effort to properly assess the situation and get accurate information out as quickly as possible. The intermittent disconnects have now been confirmed as an issue with our main provider, Windstream. At this time, they have not provided an ETA, but they are scheduled to update us again this morning. They do have techs on site. We truly appreciate your patience as we worked to share updates as fast as we could. Customers who experienced service disruptions will receive a credit, just as with the last outage.

Our tech support team and main office are answering calls, but due to the high call volume, response times may be a bit longer than usual. Please know we are doing our best to assist everyone as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Many of our customers have experienced constant up and down disconnects over the past 24 hours. We are in contact and coordinating with DC. After troubleshooting onsite, it does appear to be a problem on their end. We have and have had techs on site all day.

The system we along with 1000's of other companies use for our billing & customer history/info is experiencing a technical issue. They are aware and are working to fix it. Once complete we will be able to begin accepting payments again. Nobody will be shut off for non/late payment due to this issue. We hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving!
I am adding the email that was sent to give all the info that we have on it.

Hey folks — we just wanted to take a minute to explain what happened with the last service disruption.

During that big storm, one of our main tower sites took a direct lightning hit. That knocked three smaller downstream towers offline, which caused service interruptions for about 10% of our customers.

Our crew jumped on it right away and worked around the clock through some pretty rough weather. We got the majority of customers back online within a week or so and have finally got everyone restored.

We shared updates here as repairs were happening — and we appreciate everyone who stayed patient and supportive while we got things fixed. For those that it took the longest to get back online - we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

These kinds of weather-related hits are rare, but we’ve already added extra grounding and surge protection to make our network even stronger moving forward.

Cowboy Internet is proud to serve you. Overall, our uptime remains extremely high, but the service on the fringe towers is not where we want it. So, we are working on redundancy circuits and other infrastructure to improve reliability. More information will be forthcoming on this as we move forward. We’re always working to make our service more reliable, faster, and better every day.

Thank you again for your patience and for being part of the Cowboy family.

**UPDATE 8:04 From Windstream

Current Status: Crews are continuing excavation, but progress is slower than normal due to extremely hard, rocky ground and uneven terrain. The existing plant on both sides of the cut has been prepped to expedite restoration once trenching is complete. There is currently no estimated time of restoration.

Next Steps: Teams will continue digging through the rocky section using methods suited for the terrain. Once the trenching is complete, they will place the required infrastructure, backfill, and proceed to splicing and testing to restore service.

3:55 pm UPDATE

Current Status: The onsite field technician completed OTDR testing and confirmed a fiber cut. The damage has been located at coordinates 34.9868611, -92.4167222. The cut impacted a 96-count fiber and was caused by third-party construction activity installing new fiber in the area. An SSP splicing crew has been engaged to perform repairs and is en route with an estimated arrival time of 3 hours.

Next Steps: Continue coordination between the NOC/WSA team, the onsite technician, and the SSP splicing crew to confirm fiber specifics and prepare for restoration work upon crew arrival. Once on site, the SSP will validate the exact damage point, perform necessary splicing on the affected 96-count cable, and conduct post-repair testing to restore services and confirm stability before closure. If any additional construction support is required at the dig site, that will be arranged in parallel to avoid delays and minimize mean time to repair in accordance with the established OSP/SSP engagement process.

Cowboy Internet Services is experiencing an outage. This is on the Windstream side of things again. This is something that is out of our control. There has been a lot of fiber work going on along the interstate. We do not know the full details yet, but we are led to believe that another fiber has been hit or cut. I will continue to make updates here as Windstream gives them to us.
