We had an exciting morning at the Mount Airy Public Library!

Adam Jennings (JennTech) and Clay Welch (Starn Technologies Inc.) have created a new group through the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce called Chamber Tech Time.

The goal of Chamber Tech Time is to create a technology focused group in Mt. Airy to show that technology and tech support is available at your back door! No need to call someone in Winston, when we can support you locally.

We will meet every other month. Stay tuned for more information for our next meeting in May!

This is another post that may be a bit techie, but is a continuation of our last post on network utilization.

As a recap, we recently updated our office internet connection with a Surry Communications 2.5Gbps internet connection. Our goal was to see what we could do, from a network perspective, to utilize that bandwidth.

It took a bit of work, but we were able to get the following:

https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/d/ced61115-1902-41d6-bb78-6c6240815e9d

This is probably entitlement to what you are going to be able to get from a wired connection. This shows a 10000Mbps ethernet (wired) connection and a complete 10000Mbps network going to the 2500Mbps internet connection from (Surry Communications).

From a wireless standpoint, I think I am going to break that down in another article. It is a bit less, as far as throughput is concerned, but it showcases an equipment limitation rather than a internet connection fault. Additionally, we need to look at something other than the standard speedtest network tester to get an accurate measurement of network speed/throughput.

If you have any questions or would like us to do a network analysis for of your network, feel free to DM us. We love to help!

Use Speedtest on all your devices with our free desktop and mobile apps.

This may be a little long and a bit techy, but wanted to share a little bit on an internal project we are working on.

We recently upgraded our internet connection to a jaw dropping 2500 Mbps up/down (Surry Communications). That is an insane amount of bandwidth, and you may be asking yourself, why do such a thing?

The answer is mainly so we can determine the best way to design networks that utilize the latest in available technology.

Now here is the techy part. You need to be able to handle the bandwidth throughout the backbone of your network. The backbone is the underlying hardware data path that ties all the pieces/equipment together. Think of it as the interstate of your network. The more lanes that you have, the more data that can get through. While while we could get away with a 2500 Mbps backbone, we will be creating a 10000 Mbps connection to all of the backend equipment to facilitate greater headroom and future-proof our design.

So what does all of this solve for our customers? Great question! The main business case for this would be a network that has a lot of traffic that has to traverse your internal and internet network. This would include med-large businesses that have lots of internet telephones, streaming backups, cloud-based applications, and/or multiple sites that need to connected together.
