Twenty-five years is a long time in technology.

On May 29, DEVsource marked that milestone with a company lunch, some time together as a team, a little trivia, and a look back at how far things have come.

Mike Hopkins shared the story of DEVsource’s early days, when the company started as a small software development business with two people. Today, DEVsource has grown into a top-rated MSP with more than 25 employees serving businesses across the United States.

That kind of growth does not happen by accident. It takes good people, loyal clients, strong community support, and a lot of work across a lot of years.

We were especially glad to recognize original co-founder Brad Young, along with former employees who helped build part of the road we’re still walking. We also appreciate the Murray-Calloway Chamber of Commerce representatives who joined us to celebrate the occasion.

A lot has changed since DEVsource began, but the goal is still pretty simple: we handle the technology so businesses can focus on growth.

We’re grateful for the first 25 years, and we’re excited for what comes next.

Tip #25 of 25: Most business owners don't decide to get better IT support. They wait until a breakdown forces the conversation.

What to do: Answer five honest questions about your current situation. The answers will tell you whether your IT support model fits where your business is today, or whether you've been quietly absorbing risk you don't need to carry.

Why it matters: The right IT setup saves money, reduces risk, and gives you time back. The wrong one, including doing nothing, costs more than most owners realize.

Tip #24 of 25: When work and personal activity share a device, every risk from your personal life becomes a risk to your business and vice versa.

What to do: Keep business data on business devices and personal browsing, apps, and accounts on personal devices. If your team works remotely, this line is worth making explicit.

Why it matters: Personal devices are less likely to be patched, monitored, or protected to business standards. Personal browsing habits are a common source of malware that then spreads to business systems.

Tip #22 of 25: There's a setting in Microsoft 365 that, if left open, allows anyone, including a hacker who has compromised one account, to silently forward copies of all your business emails to an outside address indefinitely.

What to do: Ask your IT provider today whether external email auto-forwarding is blocked in your environment. It takes minutes to fix.

Why it matters: This is one of the most common techniques in business email compromises and one of the easiest to close.

Tip #21 of 25: Your employees are already using AI tools at work. The question isn't whether they are or aren’t, it's whether they know what they're allowed to put into them.

Do this: Create a simple one-page policy that tells employees which AI tools are approved, what information can and cannot go into them, and who to ask when they're not sure.

Why it matters: AI tools are powerful and they can inadvertently expose client data, financial records, or confidential business information if no guardrails exist.

Tip #20 of 25: How many times this week did you switch between Teams, Word, Excel, Whiteboard, and three other apps just to get work done? Exhausting, right?

What to do: Add Teams apps and extensions directly to your channels and chats. Whiteboard for brainstorming, Word for documents, Planner for tasks, Forms for surveys. Work happens in Teams without tab switching.

Why it matters: When your tools live inside Teams, your team stays focused. No more context switching. No more hunting for files in different places. Conversations, decisions, and collaboration all happen in one place. Teams becomes your actual workspace, not just your messaging app.

Tip #19 of 25: If someone misses a meeting, your current answer is either "check your email" or "ask someone who was there." There is a better way.

What to do: Turn on meeting recording in Teams and enable transcription. Every meeting produces a searchable record. This includes who said what, what was decided, what the next steps are, and this happens without anyone having to take notes.

Why it matters: Recorded and transcribed meetings eliminate "I didn't know that was decided" from your vocabulary. The conversation becomes a reference, not a memory.
