Did you know the incredible vocal sound on the first three Josh Turner records came through our legendary Neumann U 47 “Chrome Top,” better known around here as the Cash 47?
A little more history on this track: It became Chris Stapleton’s first #1 as a songwriter, co-written with Jace Everett and Chris DuBois.
The great Greg Droman recorded and mixed the track at the Sound Kitchen, with our 1” Ampex ATR-102 used for the mix print. Greg’s tracks were always so perfectly presented. Truly, he is one of the best world-class mixers in Nashville and one of our favorite clients from the beginning of Rack-N-Roll.
It’s pretty cool to see this much history tied to one song—and to have a couple of pieces of Rack-N-Roll gear be part of it. Josh’s record, “Your Man,” has sold 3 million copies and became a career-defining song for him. It’s always amazing to hear such a rich baritone, and when it’s captured on one of our microphones, it’s even better.
